José Carlos Martínez (politician)
José Carlos Martínez (29 November 1962 – 7 July 2011) was an Argentine politician, formerly of ARI. He sat in the Argentine Senate representing Tierra del Fuego Province. Martínez graduated from the National Technological University and gained a masters at the University of Alcalá, Spain in 1988 and again in 2002. From 1981 until 1985 he worked in the San Roque Hospital in Córdoba. He moved to Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego in 1985, working from the following year in the Río Grande regional hospital. He was elected to be Director of the Provincial Institute of Social Prevision from 1995 until 2001. He then served as Director of the social security organisation IPAUSS. He was active in the trade unions Argentine Workers' Center (CTA) and the Association of State Workers. In 2003, Martínez was elected to the provincial legislature, serving until 2007. The Honorable Senate of the Argentine Nation ( es, Honorable Senado de la Nación Argentina) is the upper house of the National Congress of Argentina. Overview The National Senate was established by the Argentine Confederation on July 29, 1854, pursuant to Articles 46 to 54 of the 1853 Constitution. There are 72 members: three for each province and three for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The number of senators per province was raised from two to three following the 1994 amendment of the Argentine Constitution as well as the addition of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires' senators. Those changes took effect following the May 14, 1995, general elections. Senators are elected to six-year terms by direct election on a provincial basis, with the party with the most votes being awarded two of the province's senate seats and the second-place party receiving the third seat. Eduardo Gabriel Macaluse (born 17 March 1959) is an Argentine politician and teacher. He is a member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies and leads the Solidarity and Equality party (SI), a grouping of dissidents from the Support for an Egalitarian Republic party (ARI), which is (since 2009) part of the political party 'Proyecto Sur'. A teacher of Spanish and literature, in 1986 Macaluse founded the education trade union SUTEBA and served as its Secretary General until 1999. The ''Buenos Aires Herald'' was an English language daily newspaper published in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 1876 to 2017. Its slogan was ''A World of Information in a few words''. History Under the original name of ''The Buenos Ayres Herald'', it was founded on 15 September 1876 by Scottish immigrant William Cathcart. At first it consisted of a single sheet with advertising on the front and mostly shipping coverage on the back. When Cathcart sold the paper a year later, it changed from a weekly to a daily format, focusing on more typical newspaper content, but always with a large shipping section. It quickly became the main source of local information for the English-speaking population of Buenos Aires. In 1925 the Rugeroni brothers, Junius Julius and Claude Ronald, bought the paper. Fabiana Ríos
María Fabiana Ríos (born March 31, 1964 in Rosario, Santa Fe) is an Argentine politician and founder of the Patagonian Social Party. She was the governor of the province of Tierra del Fuego from December 17, 2007 to December 10, 2015. She was first elected with the support of the party ARI (''Afirmación para una República de Iguales'', "Support for an Egalitarian Republic"), but she left it in 2010 and created her own party, with which she was re-elected. She was the only female governor in Argentina, until the election of Lucia Corpacci of Catamarca Province. She was succeeded in office by another woman, Rosana Bertone. Ríos was elected governor on June 24, 2007. She is the first woman to be elected governor of an Argentine province and the first woman governor of Tierra del Fuego Province. The Front for Victory ( es, Frente para la Victoria, FPV) was a centre-left Peronist electoral alliance in Argentina, and is formally a faction of the Justicialist Party. Former presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner were elected as representatives of this party. María Rosa Díaz de Vazquez (born 28 February 1953, Firmat) is an Argentine politician, formerly of the Support for an Egalitarian Republic (ARI) party. She sat in the Argentine Senate representing Tierra del Fuego Province from 2007 to 2013. A teacher, Díaz moved to Tierra del Fuego in 1987. She began teaching in Ushuaia in 1990, working until her retirement in 2007. From December 2001 until December 2004, she served as part of the directorate of the provincial institute of social security (IPAUSS). She stood to be national deputy in 2005 and was elected as Senator in 2007, assuming office in December of that year.
