José Cabrera (soldier)
José Cabrera Gómez (1810 – March 14, 1884) was a Dominican soldier and politician who was a prominent figure in the Dominican War of Independence and the Dominican Restoration War. In the latter conflict, he was one of the leaders behind the Grito del Capotillo, which triggered the start of the war against the Kingdom of Spain. In his later years, he became involved in the fight against the United States in the Six Years' War. Early life He was born in 1810, during the early years of España Boba. Some historians, like Manuel Rodríguez Objío, place his birthplace in Dajabón, and others in Higüerito, near Sabaneta. He was the son of Agustín Cabrera and Juliana Gómez. He was a soldier of the Dominican War of Independence, after which he retired from military activities until the 1860s. El Cercado
El Cercado is a rural town in the San Juan province of the Dominican Republic. It is located in the southwest region of the country. According to the 2010 census the town has a population of 20,843 inhabitants, 11,312 are men and 9,531 women. Its population has decreased in recent years as many people emigrate to Santo Domingo and other areas of the country looking for a better life, as well as also for study reasons. Its name is because the municipality is nearby and surrounded by mountains. History The community of El Cercado was founded in 1845 by President Pedro Santana. The Battle of Santiago (1863) (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Batalla de Santiago de 1863'') was a battle during the Dominican Restoration War. On September 6, 1863, during the Restoration War, after an intense battle, the Spanish annexationist forces managed to enter the Plaza de Armas in Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago. The Spanish were commanded by General Juan Suero and Colonel Manuel Cappa, who had entered Santiago with a column of three thousand men from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata.
