José Borges
José Borges (1882 – after 1909) was a Cuban baseball pitcher and second baseman in the Cuban League and Negro leagues. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. Cuban Stars (West)
The Cuban Stars were a team of Cuban professional baseball players that competed in the United States Negro leagues from 1907 to 1930. The team was also sometimes known as the Cuban Stars of Havana, Stars of Cuba, Cuban All-Stars, Havana Reds, Almendares Blues or simply as the Cubans. For one season, 1921, the team played home games in Cincinnati, Ohio and was known as the Cincinnati Cubans. Eastern founding The Cuban Stars were organized by Abel Linares and Tinti Molina as a traveling team that played only road games. For its first five years, the team competed primarily in the eastern states, near New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore although it made a famous sojourn into Chicago in 1910 and 1911, taking on the Leland Giants and numerous semi-pro teams in the Chicago area. Negro Leagues
The Negro leagues were United States professional baseball leagues comprising teams of African Americans and, to a lesser extent, Latin Americans. The term may be used broadly to include professional black teams outside the leagues and it may be used narrowly for the seven relatively successful leagues beginning in 1920 that are sometimes termed "Negro Major Leagues". In the late 19th century, the baseball color line developed in professional baseball, excluding African Americans from league play. In 1885, the Cuban Giants formed the first black professional baseball team. The first league, the National Colored Base Ball League, was organized strictly as a minor league but failed in 1887 after only two weeks owing to low attendance. Club Fé
Club Fé were a Cuban baseball team in the Cuban League based in Havana. They played in 1882, 1885, from 1887-1890, and again from 1901 to 1914. Fé first played during the 1882 season, which was canceled after four games and all game results where voided, though Fé had had a 1-4 record. The club finished in second place in the spring of 1885 behind Habana (baseball club), Habana with a 3-3 record, and ended the winter of 1885 in third place behind Habana and Almendares (baseball), Almendares. Fé won the 1888 championship with a 12-3 record. Managed by Antonio Utera, Francisco Hernandez (baseball), Francisco Hernandez won 10 games and José María Teuma batted .350 and won two games. Alberto Azoy managed the team from 1905 to 1910, during which the won the league championship in 1905. They would win again in 1912 under manager Tinti Molina. Almendares (baseball)
The Almendares club, also known as the Almendares Alacranes, was one of the oldest and most distinguished baseball teams in the old Cuban League, which existed from 1878 to 1961. Almendares represented the Almendares District on the outskirts of the old city of Havana—when the league was founded it was still considered a suburban area, but later became a district within the enlarged city. Almendares was one of the most successful franchises in the Cuban League. In their early history they were known by their colors as the Blues; later they adopted the name of ''Alacranes'' (Spanish: ''Scorpions'').
