José Antonio Torres (born Julio 18, 1973) is a Mexican film director, producer, and musician based at Inukshuk Films Studios. His film work includes writing and directing ''Octavio'' and ''Astral''; both films were breakthroughs in digital cinema in Mexico. Life and career Torres was born in Mexico City. He studied filmmaking at UDC and graduated from the school in 2003. He founded Inukshuk Films in June 2004. He is best known as the frontman of the influential alternative rock band Zalvia, with whom he performs under the stage name Antonio "Toño" Torres. In an interview with ''Zona Indie s Danniel Dissolu, Torres explained his singular vision for ''Octavio'': "What really interested me was the idea of the most incredible metamorphic paintings being made by a child prodigy, turned now in one of the most prolific Mexican artist." José Antonio Torres is a Cuban journalist who has worked as a correspondent for the government daily '' Granma'' and who has been imprisoned on spying charges since May 2011. Early life and education He received his journalism degree in 1990. Career He first served as deputy director of ''Tele Turquino'', then became a correspondent, in turn, for the National Information Agency and for ''Noticiero Nacional''. He then became a correspondent for ''Granma'' in Santiago, Cuba's second largest city. He was a sports commentator. He also served as general secretary of the organization of Communist Party journalists in Santiago de Cuba. José Antonio Torres Martinó (1916 – 22 April 2011) was a Puerto Rican painter, artist, journalist and writer. Martinó founded or expanded many of Puerto Rico's major media, artistic and journalism organizations. He was known for abstract paintings, some of which are on display in the collection of the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico. Early years Torres was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1916. The teenaged Torres moved to New York City in 1934, to study at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Financial problems forced him to leave Pratt before completing his degree, and he returned to Puerto Rico. Journalist Torres began working as a radio journalist upon his return to Puerto Rico from New York. He co-founded Puerto Rico's first magazine focusing on radio journalism when he was 22 years old.
