Josiah Pierce
Josiah Pierce (August 15, 1792 – June 25, 1866) was an American politician and lawyer in Maine. Pierce, who was born in Baldwin, Maine, attended Bowdoin College. After graduating in 1821, he settled in Gorham, Maine and became a practicing lawyer. Known for his public speaking skills, Pierce served as Judge of Probate for Cumberland County. He also published ''A History of the Town of Gorham, Maine'' in 1862 as well as The Centennial Anniversary of the Settlement of Gorham; Volume 1. Politics Beyond his law career, Pierce served as a town selectman for Gorham as well as serving three years in the Maine Senate. Baldwin, Maine
Baldwin is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,520 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine, metropolitan statistical area. History First called Flintstown Plantation, it was granted in 1774 by the Massachusetts General Court to survivors of the Concord, Massachusetts, company commanded by Captain John Flint. It replaced a grant of about 1735 which gave them Township No. 3, because when state borders were adjusted in 1741, the town turned out to be in New Hampshire—present-day Walpole. On June 23, 1802, Flintstown was incorporated as Baldwin, named for Colonel Loammi Baldwin, for whom the Baldwin apple was named. Sebago was set off and incorporated in 1826. The surface of the town is broken, but with soil favorable to grain and hay. Baldwin would be noted for its orchards, and a factory was established in East Baldwin for drying apples. Gorham is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 18,336 at the 2020 United States Census. In addition to its urban village center known as Gorham Village or simply "the Village," the town encompasses a number of smaller, unincorporated villages and hamlets with distinct historical identities, including South Gorham, West Gorham, Little Falls, White Rock, and North Gorham.
