Josiah O. Livingston
Josiah O. Livingston (February 3, 1837–July 23, 1917) was an officer in the Union Army and a Medal of Honor recipient for his actions in the American Civil War. Livingston joined the 9th Vermont Infantry as a first lieutenant in June 1862 and became regimental adjutant a year later. He was promoted to captain in November 1864. Medal of Honor citation Rank and organization: First Lieutenant, and Adjutant, 9th Vermont Infantry. Place and date: At Newport Barracks, N.C., February 2, 1864. Entered service at: Marshfield, Vt. The United States Army Center of Military History (CMH) is a directorate within the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. The Institute of Heraldry remains within the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. Newport Barracks, North Carolina
Newport Barracks, North Carolina were located near the town of Shepherdsville (now Newport, North Carolina), near the site of an early defensive fortification built in the 1830s. The camp was near the tracks of the Atlantic and Coastal Railroad and paralleled a creek that led to the Newport River (which in turn leads to Beaufort Inlet). The camp was heavily fortified by occupying Union forces based in New Bern following the battle on March 14, 1862, and was guarded by Fort Benjamin, a small earthwork defensive structure with 6- and 12-pound cannon armament. Calais is a town in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,661 at the 2020 census. Calais is homophonous with ''callous''. Calais contains the unincorporated communities of Adamant, East Calais, North Calais, Kent's Corner, Maple Corner and Pekin. History Colonel Jacob Davis named Calais after the French port city of the same name, during a time of general enthusiasm for things French as a result of France's aid during the American Revolution.
