Joshua Cooper (died 1757)
Joshua Cooper ( – 4 August 1757) was an Irish landowner and politician from Markree Castle, near Collooney in County Sligo. He was High Sheriff of Sligo in 1718, and sat in the House of Commons of Ireland as Member of Parliament (MP) for County Sligo from 1719 until his death. Cooper was the oldest son of Arthur Cooper (1667–1693) of Markree and his wife Mary Allen, daughter of Sir Joshua Allen and brother of the 1st Viscount Allen. Arthur's father was Edward Cooper (–1676), a cornet in the Cromwellian army who was awarded lands in County Sligo in 1663 after the defeat of the O'Brien Clan. Edward bequeathed Markree to Arthur, and his lands in Limerick and Kerry to Arthur's younger brother Richard. Joshua Cooper married Mary Bingham, the daughter of Richard Bingham of Newbrook, County Mayo. They had two sons, Joshua (1732–1800) and Richard. Markree Castle
Markree Castle is a castle located in Collooney, County Sligo, Ireland. It is the ancestral seat of the Cooper family, partially moated by the River Unshin. Today it is a small family-run hotel. In the 1830s the Observatory on the grounds of the Castle had the largest refracting telescope in the world, and what today is known as the asteroid 9 Metis was discovered there in the 1840s by the Coopers' observatory staff. Benjamin Burton (MP)
Major-General Benjamin Burton (10 March 1855 – 6 August 1921) was a British Army officer. Military career Burton was commissioned into the Royal Artillery on 9 March 1875. He saw action in South Africa during the Second Boer War for which he was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He went on to become Commander, Royal Artillery for 1st Division in September 1907 and General Officer Commanding the Northumbrian Division in the UK in March 1912. He handed over command of his division and retired just before the division was deployed to France in April 1915. Owen Wynne (1723–1789)
Owen Wynne (1723 – 18 March 1789) was an Irish Member of Parliament. He sat in the House of Commons of Ireland from 1749 to 1789. He was an MP for County Sligo from 1749 to 1778, and for Sligo Borough from 1776 until 1789. Wynne was a prominent landowner in Co. Leitrim and Co. Sligo. His main residence was Hazelwood House, Co. Sligo. However, he spent a good deal of time in Dublin due to his parliamentary responsibilities and had a house on Henrietta Street. His great uncle Owen Wynne (1665–1737) was a prominent soldier and politician and had purchased the estates in Co. Sligo to add to the family's existing estates in Co. Leitrim. He then built Hazelwood House. Wynne married Anne Maxwell, the sister of the first Earl of Farnham, on 13 December 1754. They had six sons and three daughters.
