Joseph Woods (architect)
Joseph Woods (24 August 1776 – 9 January 1864) was an English Quaker architect, botanist and geologist born in the village of Stoke Newington, a few miles north of the City of London. A Member of the Society of Antiquaries, and an Honorary Member of the Society of British Architects, he was also elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society and a Fellow of the Geological Society in recognition of his original research. Family background His mother was Mary (or Margaret) Hoare, daughter of Samuel Hoare (1716-1796), a London merchant from an Irish background, and Grizell Gurnell (1722? - 1802), of Ealing. The Hoares lived on what is now Stoke Newington Church Street, opposite Clissold Park. in 1824; and Samuel Jr, a banker and abolitionist. His father, Joseph Woods the elder, was an abolitionist. He and Samuel Hoare Jr were two of the four Quaker founders of the London Abolition Committee, the predecessor body to the Committee for the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Education ...

Joseph Woods (Province Of Canada Politician)
Joseph Woods was a politician in the Province of Canada, which had been formed by the merger of Upper Canada and Lower Canada in early 1841. Woods served two terms in the Legislative Assembly of the new province. He was elected in 1841 to the first Parliament of the Province of Canada, representing the riding of Kent in Canada West (now Ontario). He was defeated in the general election of 1844, but re-elected in a subsequent by-election in 1845 when the Kent seat became vacant. Woods was a Compact Tory, a conservative who supported the Family Compact, the oligarchic group which had controlled the government of Upper Canada prior to the merger with Lower Canada. In the general election of 1841 for the first Parliament, he won the election for the Kent riding, defeating Reform candidate Samuel Bealey Harrison. Joseph Andrew Woods (1870–1925) was a unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Woods worked as a shipyard carpenter, and then as an insurance secretary. Joseph Woods (poet)
Joseph Woods is an Irish poet born in Drogheda, Ireland. He moved with his family to Harare, Zimbabwe in 2016, where he works as a poet, writer and editor. Life Born in Drogheda in 1966, he studied biology and chemistry and worked for periods as an industrial chemist, teacher and school principal. He was awarded an MA in poetry (Lancaster University) under the direction of James Simmons (poet), James Simmons. He lived and worked in Kyoto, Japan in the early 1990s and travelled for long periods in Asia, in particular China and India and later in Latin America. He was a director of Poetry Ireland, the national organisation for the support and promotion of poets and poetry from 2001 to 2013. Moving with his family to Yangon, Myanmar in the summer of 2013, they lived there until post democratic elections at the end of 2015. In January 2016, his family moved to Harare, Zimbabwe.
