Joseph Wagner (New York Politician)
Joseph Wagner (1853 - January 29, 1932) was an American politician from New York, though he was born in Alsace, France. Life Wagner's family emigrated to the United States in 1856, and settled in Newark, New Jersey. In 1868, he removed to Brooklyn and became a carpenter. In 1875, he opened his own business as a carpenter, builder and contractor. Later he became a general contractor and executed public works of large proportions in Brooklyn. He was Messenger to the Board of Aldermen of Brooklyn from 1881 to 1883; and Superintendent of the Truant Home from 1883 to 1884. Wagner was a member of the New York State Senate (9th D.) from 1899 to 1904, sitting in the 122nd, 123rd, 124th, 125th, 126th and 127th New York State Legislatures. Joseph Wagner (engraver)
Joseph Wagner (1706 – 1780) was a highly regarded eighteenth century German engraver and draughtsman. Biography He was born in Thalendorf in Gestratz, on Lake Constance, in 1706. He studied painting at Venice under Jacopo Amigoni, who persuaded him to turn to engraving, and Wagner accompanied Amigoni to Rome and Bologna, and in 1733 to England. He afterwards went to Paris, to study engraving under Laurent Cars. He then made a second stay in England, where his first productions were portraits of the three princesses, Anne, Amelia, and Caroline, the daughters of George ll. He engraved several other plates in England, but returned to Venice, where he opened a school and also carried on a considerable business as a print seller. He died in Munich in 1780. His prints are very numerous, and his students included Francesco Bartolozzi, Antonio Capellan, Fabio Berardi and Jean Jacques Flipart. Joseph F. Wagner (born May 7, 1960 in Springfield, Massachusetts) is an American politician who represents the 8th Hampden District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Prior to becoming a state representative, Wagner was the administrative assistant to mayor of Chicopee. Joseph Wagner (October 19, 1809October 27, 1896) was a German American immigrant, educator, and Democratic politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate for four years and the State Assembly for six years, representing eastern Fond du Lac County. Biography Wagner was born on October 19, 1809, in Meckenbeuren, in what is now the state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. At the time of his birth, this area was part of the Kingdom of Württemberg in the Confederation of the Rhine. He was raised and educated in Württemberg, and emigrated to the United States in 1832. He settled first in Troy, New York, where he worked as a school teacher for several years. He moved west to Mount Calvary, Wisconsin, in Fond du Lac County, in 1846. He became involved in local politics shortly after his arrival in Wisconsin, and became a member of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
