Joseph Stone, Baron Stone
Joseph Ellis Stone, Baron Stone (born Silverstone; 27 May 1903 – 17 June 1986) was a British general practitioner, most notably to Harold Wilson. Career Stone was born in Llanelli in Wales, and after qualifying as a doctor at Cardiff University and Westminster Hospital Medical School worked as a GP in and around Hendon. He took on a number of patients from Hampstead Garden Suburb, at the time an area popular with left-wing politicians, one of whom was Harold Wilson, who went on to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. During World War II, as a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps, Stone was in the British Army force that liberated Belsen concentration camp. He became heavily involved as a doctor in the initial army reaction to the situation they found in Belsen, and to the rehabilitation of the prisoners there. Life Peers
In the United Kingdom, life peers are appointed members of the Peerages in the United Kingdom, peerage whose titles cannot be inherited, in contrast to hereditary peers. In modern times, life peerages, always created at the rank of baron, are created under the Life Peerages Act 1958 and entitle the holders to seats in the House of Lords, presuming they meet qualifications such as age and citizenship. Joseph Thomas William Haines (born 29 January 1928) is a British journalist and former press secretary to Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Early life and career Born in Rotherhithe, then an impoverished area of London with appalling housing conditions, Haines was the youngest child of a dock worker who died when he was 2. His mother, a cleaner at a hospital, brought up the family. He joined the Labour Party as a teenager. At 14, he became a copyboy on the Glasgow ''Bulletin'', and then a lobby reporter at Westminster in 1950.
