Joseph R. Fisher (USMC)
Joseph R. Fisher (March 14, 1921 – January 19, 1981) was a highly decorated United States Marine Corps colonel. He was awarded the Navy Cross and two Silver Stars during his career which spanned from World War II to the Vietnam War. Early life and World War II Joseph R. Fisher was born on March 14, 1921, in Allston, Massachusetts. He was raised in Westwood and graduated from Dedham High School. Fisher enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 and quickly rose to the rank of platoon sergeant. By February 1945, Platoon Sergeant Fisher was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division. On the afternoon of February 19, Fisher's battalion made an amphibious landing at Red Beach 1 on Iwo Jima. Operation Starlite
Operation Starlite (also known in Vietnam as Battle of Van Tuong) was the first major offensive action conducted by a purely U.S. military unit during the Vietnam War from 18 to 24 August 1965. The operation was launched based on intelligence provided by Major general Nguyen Chanh Thi, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) I Corps commander. Bunker
A bunker is a defensive military fortification designed to protect people and valued materials from falling bombs, artillery, or other attacks. Amphibious Warfare

5th Marine Division (United States)
The 5th Marine Division was a United States Marine Corps ground combat division which was activated on 11 November 1943 (officially activated on 21 January 1944) at Camp Pendleton, California during World War II. The 5th Division saw its first combat action during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945 where it sustained the highest number of casualties of the three Marine divisions of the V Amphibious Corps (invasion force). The 5th Division was to be part of the planned invasion of the Japan homeland before Japan surrendered. 1st Battalion, 26th Marines
The 1st Battalion, 26th Marines (1/26) is an inactive infantry battalion of the United States Marine Corps. They were part of the 26th Marine Regiment (United States), 26th Marine Regiment and 5th Marine Division (United States), 5th Marine Division and fought during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. They were activated again for the Vietnam War but were deactivated after the war and remain inactive today. A company is a military unit, typically consisting of 80–250 soldiers and usually commanded by a major or a captain. Most companies are formed of three to seven platoons, although the exact number may vary by country, unit type, and structure.
