Joseph Powell (painter)
Joseph Powell (1780–1834) was an English watercolour painter and printmaker.Mallalieu 2004. He was largely engaged as a teacher of painting in watercolours. He executed landscapes chiefly drawn from English scenery, and was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy exhibitions from 1796 to 1829. Life Joseph Powell was born in 1780. He painted at first in oils, but subsequently devoted himself almost entirely to watercolours. His subjects were landscapes, chiefly drawn from English scenery, but sometimes of a topographical nature. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the 'Old' Society of Painters in Water-colours at the time of its foundation. Powell was largely engaged as a teacher of painting in water-colours; Samuel Redgrave was among his numerous pupils. Joseph Powell (congressman)
Joseph Powell (June 23, 1828 – April 24, 1904) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Joseph Powell was born in Towanda, Pennsylvania. He completed preparatory studies and engaged in mercantile pursuits. He was president of the First National Bank of Towanda from 1870 to 1889. Powell was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1876. He was appointed special deputy collector of the port of Philadelphia in 1885 and served four years. He was sheriff of Bradford County, Pennsylvania Bradford County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Joseph Joshua Powell (1870 – 29 November 1896) was an English footballer who was captain of Woolwich Arsenal in their first season of League football. He is one of the few footballers to die as a result of an injury incurred while playing. Life and career Born in Bristol in 1870, Powell had joined the Army as a young man, and served for six years in the South Staffordshire Regiment. He played football for the regimental team, and impressed enough in a match against the then Royal Arsenal in October 1892 that the club bought him out of the Army and signed him as a professional that December. Having turned professional, Arsenal had been shunned by many other clubs and county associations, and only competed in FA Cup matches and friendlies. A strong and purposeful right back, Powell immediately became a regular in the Arsenal side. Joe Powell (21 March 1922 - 30 June 2016) was a British stuntman and actor. He was known as the "daddy of British stuntmen". Early life and career Powell was born in Shepherd's Bush, London. He joined the British Army and served in the 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers Cadet Corps. He enjoyed soldiering, and soon after the outbreak of war, when he was still only 17, he joined the Grenadier Guards. To break the monotony of drill and PT he took up boxing with the regimental team, but as the war progressed he was selected for No 4 Special Service (Commando) unit, taking part in the 1942 raid on Dieppe, during which he was briefly knocked out, and in the D-Day invasion. In 1946 he met with the actor Dennis Price which led to him getting a job as an extra at Pinewood Studios. He was sparring at the London's Polytechnic Boxing Club and soon became a founding partner in a stunt team by Captain Jock Easton.
