Joseph Pehrson
Joseph Pehrson (August 14, 1950 – April 4, 2020) was an American composer and pianist. Life Pehrson comes from Detroit, Michigan. He studied at the University of Michigan and Eastman School of Music. ( D.M.A. 1981). His teachers include Leslie Bassett, Joseph Schwantner, Otto Luening and Elie Siegmeister. From 1992 to 1993 he was composer-in-residence at the University of Akron. He mostly wrote pieces for orchestral and chamber music. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and Definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". The earliest use of the term in a musical context given by the ''Oxford English Dictionary'' is from Thomas Morley's 1597 ''A Plain and Easy Introduction to Practical Music'', where he says "Some wil be good descanters ..and yet wil be but bad composers". The 1st century was the century spanning AD 1 ( I) through AD 100 ( C) according to the Julian calendar.
