Joseph L. Morphis
Joseph Lewis Morphis (April 17, 1831 – July 29, 1913) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from Mississippi. Born near Pocahontas, Tennessee, Pocahontas, McNairy County, Tennessee, Morphis pursued elementary studies. He engaged in planting. He served as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1859. He entered the Confederate States Army as Captain (OF-2), captain in August 1861 and served until the close of the American Civil War, Civil War. He moved with his family to Pontotoc, Mississippi, in 1863. He served as a member of the State constitutional convention in 1865. He served as a member of the State house of representatives 1866-1868. Cleveland, Oklahoma
Cleveland is a city in Pawnee County, Oklahoma, United States. The 2010 census population was 3,251, a decrease of 0.9 percent from the figure of 3,282 recorded in 2000. History After the Cherokee Outlet opening, a homesteader by the name of Willis H. Herbert established a town named Herbert by opening a post office on the current townsite of Cleveland on October 28, 1893. The Post Office department subsequently withdrew the approval of the Herbert post office. The post office was then moved 100 feet, and reestablished under the name Cleveland, named in honor of then President Grover Cleveland on April 19, 1894. By 1900, the town's population was 211. Reuben O. Davis (January 18, 1813 – October 14, 1890) was a United States representative from Mississippi. Born in Winchester, Tennessee into a family of Welsh origin, he moved with his parents to Alabama about 1818. His grandfather Joseph Davis was born in Wales in 1763 and emigrated to Virginia. Reuben Davis attended the public schools. Later, he studied medicine,Thomas H. Somerville, "A Sketch of the Supreme Court of Mississippi", in Horace W. Fuller, ed., '' The Green Bag'', Vol. XI (1899), p. 509. but practiced only a few years, when he abandoned the profession. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1834, and commenced practice in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
