Joseph Gonzales (politician)
Joseph (José) Stonewall Gonzales, aka "Tee Joe" Gonzales or Joseph Gonzales (September 11, 1862 – April 20, 1940), was an American politician and businessman. He served as the first Mayor of modern Gonzales, Louisiana, serving between 1922 (when the city got the status of village) and 1936. In 1887 Gonzales founded the first post office of the city, the Gonzales Post Office. This post office gives its name to the city. Gonzales is a city in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, it has a population of 12,231. Known as the "Jambalaya Capital of the World", it is famous for its annual Jambalaya Festival, which was first held in 1968. Stephen "Steve" F. Juneau came up with the idea for the Jambalaya Festival and served as the first president of the Jambalaya Festival Association.
