Joseph Donovan Ross
Dr. Joseph Donovan Ross (March 13, 1911 – May 22, 1984) was a medical doctor and politician from Alberta, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1952 to 1971. He also served as Minister of Health in the Alberta provincial government. He was known by the name Dr. J. Donovan Ross. Political career Ross first ran for public office as a Social Credit candidate in the 1952 Alberta general election in the multi-member district of Edmonton. He finished fifth out of twenty-nine candidates in the first round of the single transferable vote. In the second round he finished in a four-way tie for first place to take one of the seven seats. In the 1955 general election, he finished eleventh out of thirty candidates in the first round. In the second round he finished fifth out of seventh place to win his second term. Fallis is a hamlet (place), hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Parkland County. It is located on Alberta Highway 16, Highway 16, approximately west of Spruce Grove. 1971 Alberta General Election
The 1971 Alberta general election was the seventeenth general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on August 30, 1971, to elect seventy-five members of the Alberta Legislature to form the 17th Alberta Legislative Assembly. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta led by Peter Lougheed won 49 of 75 seats with 46.4 per cent of the popular vote in the new legislature to form a majority government. Lougheed's Progressive Conservatives defeated the incumbent Social Credit Party led by Premier Harry Strom who won 25 seats with 41.1 per cent of the popular vote. The 1971 election ushered in the Progressive Conservative dynasty in Alberta, which continuously held a majority government for 44 years from 1971 to 2015. Lou Heard
Louis Wesley Heard (March 8, 1909 – February 27, 1987) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta twice. The first stint was from 1948 to 1952 and the second was from 1959 to 1971 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in government both times. Early life Heard was born in Saskatchewan in 1909. He moved to a house once owned by Ambrose Bury in the Edmonton neighborhood of the Highlands in 1946. Political career Heard ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature for the first time in the electoral district of Edmonton as a Social Credit candidate in the 1948 Alberta general election. Valerie Meredith (née Ross; born 22 April 1949) is a Canadian politician and realtor. Meredith served as a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 2004. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Meredith was a town councillor in Slave Lake, Alberta from 1973 until 1977 when she became Mayor, serving until 1980. In 1988, Meredith made an unsuccessful attempt to enter politics as a Reform party candidate in the Surrey—White Rock—South Langley riding. Her second campaign for the riding in 1993 was successful. Ernest Manning
Ernest Charles Manning, (September 20, 1908 – February 19, 1996), a Canadian politician, was the eighth Premier of Alberta between 1943 and 1968 for the Social Credit Party of Alberta. He served longer than any other premier in Alberta's history and was the second longest-serving provincial premier in Canadian history, after George Henry Murray of Nova Scotia. Manning's 25 consecutive years as Premier was defined by strong social conservatism and fiscal conservatism. He was also the only member of the Social Credit Party of Canada to sit in the Senate and, with the party shut out of the House of Commons in 1980, was its last representative in Parliament when he retired from the Senate in 1983.
