Joseph DeAngelis
Joseph DeAngelis (born September 21, 1946) is an American politician and lawyer in the state of Rhode Island. DeAngelis was born in Providence in 1946. He earned degrees from Providence College and Suffolk University in Boston ( J.D. 1973) before establishing law practices in Smithfield, Rhode Island and later Providence. From 1969 to 1973, he served as an executive assistant to Governor of Rhode Island Frank Licht Frank R. Frank Licht
Frank R. Licht (March 3, 1916May 30, 1987) was an American politician and the 67th Governor of Rhode Island from 1969 to 1973, serving as the first Jewish governor in Rhode Island state history. He was also an associate justice of the Rhode Island Superior Court from 1956 to 1968 and member of the Rhode Island Senate from 1949 to 1956. Early life and career Licht was born on March 3, 1916 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the son of Rose (Kassed) and Jacob Licht. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants. He graduated from Brown University in 1938 and Harvard Law School in 1941, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at both universities. In 1946, he married Dorothy Shirley Krauss; they had three daughters, and eight grandchildren. In 1942 Licht was admitted to the Rhode Island bar, where he served as a law clerk for Judge John C. Smithfield is a town that is located in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. It includes the historic villages of Esmond, Georgiaville, Mountaindale, Hanton City, Stillwater and Greenville. The population was 22,118 at the 2020 census. Smithfield is the home of Bryant University, a private four year college. History The area comprising modern-day Smithfield was first settled in 1663 as a farming community by several British colonists, including John Steere. The area was originally within the boundaries of Providence until 1731 when Smithfield was incorporated as a separate town. Matthew John Smith (born July 17, 1941) is an American politician and lawyer in the state of Rhode Island. Smith was born in Providence in 1941, the son of Irish immigrants. He earned a bachelor's (1962) and master's (1966) degrees at Providence College. He worked as a professor and archivist at Providence College, and also co-authored a book on the history of Catholicism in Rhode Island. A Democrat, Smith was first elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in a special election held in June 1973.
