Joseph Cheromei
Joseph Cheromei Kiprotich (born 24 January 1966) is a Kenyan former long-distance runner and athletics coach. He was a team gold medallist at the 1993 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships with Lameck Aguta and Thomas Osano, having finished sixteenth individually. His personal best for the marathon was 2:11:44 hours, achieved at the 1997 Prague International Marathon. He regularly ran on the European professional road running circuit from 1992 to 2003 and won the Giro di Castelbuono (1993), Livorno Marathon (1998) and Quattro Porte Half Marathon (1998). During the course of his career, he completed no less than 43 marathons. In addition to Livorno, he won marathons in Italy in Pompei and Parabita, as well as the Florianópolis marathon in Brazil. At higher level races, he was runner-up at the Italian Marathon in 1997 and the 20 km of Brussels in 1995, and was fourth at the 1995 Florence Marathon. Lydia Cheromei
Lydia Cheromei (born 15 May 1977, in Baringo District) is a Kenyan athlete born into a family of athletes. She specialises in long distance running. She rose to fame at the age of thirteen with a win in the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. She took some years away from competition, citing burnout, and returned in the mid-nineties, making an appearance at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Cheromei enjoyed success on the roads, taking wins at the Saint Silvester Road Race and came sixth on the track at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She did not compete from 2001 to 2004 due to private problems, and missed another two years of competition after a positive doping test in 2006. Cheromei returned in 2008 and began competing in marathons, followed by the Italian Coach Gabriele Nicola, taking a debut win at the Amsterdam Marathon. 20 km Of Brussels
The 20 km of Brussels (french: 20 km de Bruxelles, nl, 20 km door Brussel) is a 20.1 km running race that has been held each year in Brussels since 1980, usually in May. It used to have a maximum number of 25,000 entries, which were normally sold out quite quickly after places go on sale in March, but in 2010 a staggered start-time approach led to an increased maximum number of entries of 40,000. The race is a major event in Brussels, with a large turnout of supporters. The course is quite challenging, particularly due to the gentle, long overall climb and several tunnels between kilometer three and seven as well as the long and steep climb on Avenue de Tervueren towards the end of the race.
