Joseph Carson (born April 19, 1808, Philadelphia; died December 30, 1876) was a United States physician and medical botanist. Biography He was privately schooled in Philadelphia, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1826, and from the Medical School of the University in 1830. He began a practice in 1832, which emphasized obstetrics. He studied botany throughout his life. From 1836 to 1850, he was professor of materia medica in the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. He held a similar chair in the University of Pennsylvania from 1850 to 1876. In 1870 he was president of the national convention for the revision of the United States Pharmacopeia. He was a elected as a member to the American Philosophical Society in 1844. Works For a number of years he was an associate editor of the ''American Journal of Pharmacy''. ''The Trial'' (german: Der Process, link=no, previously , and ) is a novel written by Franz Kafka in 1914 and 1915 and published posthumously on 26 April 1925. One of his best known works, it tells the story of Josef K., a man arrested and prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority, with the nature of his crime revealed neither to him nor to the reader. Heavily influenced by Dostoevsky's ''Crime and Punishment'' and ''The Brothers Karamazov'', Kafka even went so far as to call Dostoevsky a blood relative. Like Kafka's two other novels, ''The Trial'' was never completed, although it does include a chapter which appears to bring the story to an intentionally abrupt ending. After Kafka's death in 1924 his friend and literary executor Max Brod edited the text for publication by Verlag Die Schmiede. Josephine Catron Carson (October 9, 1946 – September 19, 2011) was an American playwright, poet, fiction writer, and actor, as well as the author of three children's books. Joe Carson (born 24 November 1953) is a former professional footballer who spent his entire playing career in the Scottish leagues, playing mostly as a central defender. Joe Carson (born Joe Franklin Carson in Holliday, Texas; 21 November 1936) was an American country music performer, active from the early 1950s to early 1960s. He died in an auto accident at the age of 27, on 28 February 1964. Life and career Also known as Little Joe Carson, he was a songwriter as well, writing many of his own songs; some of his songs were recorded by other artists such as "The Heart You Could Have Had" ( Wanda Jackson) and "Time Lock" ( George Jones).
