Joseph Brennan (senator)
Joseph Brennan (died 1 February 1950) was an Irish politician. He was an independent member of Seanad Éireann from 1938 to 1944, and from 1948 to 1950. He was first elected to the 3rd Seanad in 1938 by the Industrial and Commercial Panel. He was re-elected at the 1943 Seanad election but lost his seat at the 1944 election. He was re-elected at the 1948 election but died in office in 1950. Joseph Brennan (Clann Na Poblachta Politician)
Joseph Patrick Brennan (10 September 1889 – 4 May 1968) was an Irish Clann na Poblachta politician and medical doctor. He was born in 1889 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, U.S. He was the son of Patrick Brennan and Julia O'Connor who married in Boston in 1888. He moved back from the US to his mother's native Knocknagoshel, County Kerry at around the age of six years. His father had received communication from his brothers in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia regarding the Gold Rush and decided to join them in Australia and made his fortune with his brothers in the drapery business. The Brennan Building still stands today in Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie. On his father's return to Ireland in either 1908 or 1912 he brought an estate called Delbrook Park in Dublin. Joseph Brenan (also Brennan; 17 November 1828 – 27 May 1857) was a poet, journalist and author, and leading member of the Young Irelanders and Irish Confederation. Early life Joseph Brenan, was born in Cork on 17 November 1828. Brenan began to write verse at an early age, and was one of the genuine poets of the Young Ireland movement. His earlier poems were published under the initials "J. B., Cork," or "J. B—n," and some of his American verses under the pseudonym "Gondalez." He was also an able prose writer. Joseph Brennan (18 November 1887 – 19 March 1976) was an Irish economist and senior Irish civil servant who served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland from 1943 to 1953. Brennan was born in Cork in 1887, but was a native of Bandon, County Cork. In 1909, he entered Christ Church, Cambridge, where he studied Mathematics and then switched to classics. In successive years he obtained a first in Latin and Greek. In 1911, he entered the Civil Service and was assigned to the Board of Customs and Excise and a year later transferred to the finance division of the Chief Secretary's office in Dublin Castle. During the July 1921 Truce, he was introduced to Michael Collins and later became a financial advisor to the team negotiating the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Joseph R. Brennan (November 15, 1900 – May 10, 1989) was an American professional basketball player. He is mostly known for his time with the Brooklyn Visitations, which he joined in 1919 and led to three ABL championships (1929, 1931 and 1935). After his playing career, he coached St. Francis College in Brooklyn for 7 seasons from 1941–1948. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975. Biography Joseph R. Joseph Vincent Brennan (born 20 March 1954) is a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has been serving as bishop of the Diocese of Fresno in California since 2019. He previously served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 2015 to 2019. Early years Brennan was born in Van Nuys, California. He was ordained a priest on June 21, 1980.
