Joseph Biel
Joseph Biel (February 22, 1859 – April 18, 1944) was an American politician, farmer, and businessman. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Born in the Kingdom of Bavaria, Biel emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1861 and settled in Dodge County, Wisconsin. He went to public school. Biel had a farm in the town of Westford, in Dodge County. He was also involved with the Westford Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Biel served as chairman of the Westford Town Board. He also served on the school board. In 1915, Biel served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was a Democrat. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. From 1848 to 1853 there were 66 assembly districts; from 1854 to 1856, 82 districts; from 1857 to 1861, 97 districts; and from 1862 to 1972, 100 districts. The Kingdom of Bavaria (german: Königreich Bayern; ; spelled ''Baiern'' until 1825) was a German state that succeeded the former Electorate of Bavaria in 1805 and continued to exist until 1918. Dodge County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 89,396. Its county seat is Juneau. The county was created from the Wisconsin Territory in 1836 and organized in 1844. Westford is a town in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,400 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of South Randolph is located in the town. The unincorporated community of Lost Lake is also located partially in the town. Beaver Dam is a city in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States, along Beaver Dam Lake and the Beaver Dam River. The population was 16,708 at the 2020 census, making it the largest city primarily located in Dodge County. It is the principal city of the Beaver Dam Micropolitan Statistical area. The city is adjacent to the Town of Beaver Dam. History Beaver Dam was first settled by Thomas Mackie and Joseph Goetschius in 1841, and by 1843 had a population of almost 100. The city was named for an old beaver dam located in a stream flowing into Beaver Dam River. The area had also been known as ''Okwaanim'', Chippewa for beaver dam. The community was incorporated as a city on March 18, 1856. That same year the Milwaukee Railroad reached the area, encouraging further growth.
