Joseph Barricklow
Joseph P. Barricklow (February 7, 1867 – March 23, 1924) was an American lawyer, politician, and osteopath. Barricklow was born in Rising Sun, Indiana. In 1871, he moved with his parents to a farm in Arcola, Illinois. Barricklow went to the public schools and started to teach school in 1885. He studied law and was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1893. Barricklow joined the Illinois National Guard in 1885 and was commissioned a captain. Barricklow served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1895 to 1899 and was a Democrat. Rising Sun, Indiana
Rising Sun is a city in Randolph Township and the county seat of Ohio County, Indiana, United States, along the Ohio River. It is also the only incorporated community in the county. The population of Rising Sun was 2,304 at the 2010 census. History The town was registered in 1816 by John James, originally of Frederick County, Maryland. At the time, it had a population of about 700. Many German immigrants settled in Rising Sun. The Rising Sun post office has been in operation since 1844. In the 1830s, Rising Sun was a seasonal stop for hundreds of flatboats daily heading down the Ohio River. The Clore Plow Works-J.W. Whitlock and Company and Rising Sun Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Arcola, Illinois
Arcola is a city in Douglas County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,927 at the 2020 census. The city was founded in 1855, when the Illinois Central Railroad was built through the county. The railroad itself was responsible for surveying, platting and founding the town. History Arcola was the birthplace in 1880 of John Barton Gruelle, or "Johnny" Gruelle, who created Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy, the loveable American dolls and storybook characters. He used artistic skills learned from his painter father, Richard Buckner Gruelle, combined with his self-taught writing skills to create stories expressing regional values and aesthetic images. His artistic granddaughter, Joni Gruelle Wannamaker, manages the Raggedy Ann Museum in Arcola. Osteopathy () is a type of alternative medicine that emphasizes physical manipulation of the body's muscle tissue and bones. Practitioners of osteopathy are referred to as osteopaths. Osteopathic manipulation is the core set of techniques in osteopathy. Parts of osteopathy, such as craniosacral therapy, have no therapeutic value and have been labeled as pseudoscience and quackery.
