Joseph B. Gill
Joseph B. Gill (17 February 1862 – 22 September 1942) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1897 he served as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. Life Joseph Gill was born on a farm near Marion, Illinois. He attended local schools and in 1884 he graduated from the ''Southern Illinois Normal School'' in Carbondale. Afterwards he studied law at the University of Michigan and in 1886 he was permitted to the bar. However he did not work in the judicial arena. Instead he started a career as a journalist in the newspaper business. Until 1893 he conducted and edited the ''Murphysboro Independent''. He joined the Democratic Party and in 1888 he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives, where he remained until 1892. In that year he was elected to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. He served in this position between 10 January 1893 and 11 January 1897 when his term ended. William Northcott
William Allen Northcott (28 January 1854 – 25 January 1917) was an American politician. Between 1897 and 1905 he served two terms as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. Life William Northcott was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He studied law and practiced as an attorney. Between 1882 and 1892 he was the District Attorney in Bond County, Illinois. He joined the Republican Party and in 1896 he was elected to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. In this position he served two terms between 11 January 1897 and 9 January 1905 when his second term ended. In this function he was the deputy of the Governors John Riley Tanner and his successor Richard Yates Jr. In 1904 he was an alternate delegate to Republican National Convention. Between 1905 and 1914 Northcott was the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Illinois. Lyman Beecher Ray
Lyman Beecher Ray (August 17, 1831 – August 22, 1916) was an American politician from Vermont. After learning the merchant trade, Ray moved west to Kane County, Illinois, working in a shop for three years. He later opened a store in Morris, Illinois, operating it for thirty-three years and become a prominent citizen there. He was elected to one term in the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate. In 1888, Ray was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. Biography Lyman Beecher Ray was born in Hinesburg, Vermont, on August 17, 1831. He was raised on the family farm and first attended public schools before receiving education at a private academy. He then taught school for several years, then worked for a year as a merchant's clerk. In 1852, he decided to move to Kane County, Illinois, and found work in a general store.
