Joseph Aubin Doiron
Joseph Aubin Doiron, (June 10, 1922 – January 29, 1995) was the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1980 to 1985, becoming the province's second Acadian to hold this position. Doiron was born in North Rustico in 1922. Following his early education in local schools, he went on to receive his B.A. from Sainte-Anne's College in Nova Scotia and his D.D.S from the Université de Montréal in 1951. He was married to Rose Bernice Gallant of Duvar, PEI, and together they had seven children. Before his appointment as Lieutenant-Governor, Doiron practiced dentistry in Summerside. Aubin Doiron was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Prince Edward Island on January 14, 1980. Acadian
The Acadians (french: Acadiens , ) are an ethnic group descended from the French who settled in the New France colony of Acadia during the 17th and 18th centuries. Most Acadians live in the region of Acadia, as it is the region where the descendants of a few Acadians who escaped the Expulsion of the Acadians (aka The Great Upheaval / ''Le Grand Dérangement'') re-settled. Most Acadians in Canada continue to live in majority French-speaking communities, notably those in New Brunswick where Acadians and Francophones are granted autonomy in areas such as education and health. Université Sainte-Anne is a French-language university in Pointe-de-l'Église, Nova Scotia, Canada. It and the Université de Moncton in New Brunswick are the only French-language universities in the Maritime Provinces. History It was founded on September 1, 1890 by Gustave Blanche, a Eudist Father, to facilitate the higher education of Acadians in Nova Scotia. The University was named after Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary. In 2003, the provincial government merged the university with Collège de l'Acadie, a French-language community college with campuses throughout Nova Scotia.
