Joseph Aspinall
Joseph Aspinall (1854 – May 7, 1939) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life He graduated from Columbia Law School in 1875. He was admitted to the bar, and practiced in Brooklyn. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Kings Co., 11th D.) in 1888, 1889 and 1891. He was a member of the New York State Senate (3rd D.) in 1892 and 1893. He was a Kings County Judge from 1896 to 1906; and a justice of the New York Supreme Court The Supreme Court of the State of New York is the trial-level court of general jurisdiction in the New York State Unified Court System. New York Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the State of New York is the trial-level court of general jurisdiction in the New York State Unified Court System. (Its Appellate Division is also the highest intermediate appellate court.) It is vested with unlimited civil and criminal jurisdiction, although in many counties outside New York City it acts primarily as a court of civil jurisdiction, with most criminal matters handled in County Court. The court is radically different from its counterparts in nearly all other states in that the Supreme Court is a trial court and is not the highest court in the state. The highest court of the State of New York is the Court of Appeals.
