Joseph Anthony Zziwa
Joseph Anthony Zziwa (born 16 February 1956), is a Ugandan Roman Catholic prelate who serves as the Bishop of the Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana. He was appointed as Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana on 23 October 2004. Background and priesthood Joseph Zziwa was born on 16 February 1956 at Kasambya Village, in Mubende Parish, in present-day Mubende District in the Buganda Region of Uganda. This location lies in present-day Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese. He was ordained priest on 16 November 1980 at Kiyinda-Mityana. He served as priest in the diocese until 19 November 2001. Emmanuel Wamala
Emmanuel Wamala (born 15 December 1926) is a Ugandan cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, and former Archbishop of Kampala from 1990 to 2006. He is currently serving as the Cardinal-Priest of Sant'Ugo, appointed in 1994. Priesthood Wamala was born in Kamaggwa parish of Lwaggulwe Masaka district, Uganda. He was ordained, on 21 December 1957, chapel of the Pontifical Collegio Urbaniano, Rome, by Pietro Sigismondi. In the same ceremony Stephen Fumio Hamao, future cardinal, was also ordained. He studied in Rome from 1957 to 1960 and had further studies in Uganda and United States, as well as pastoral ministry in the diocese of Masaka, from 1960 to 1981. He obtained a Bachelor of Theology. Uganda Martyrs
The Uganda Martyrs are a group of 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of Uganda, who were executed between 31 January 1885 and 27 January 1887. They were killed on orders of Mwanga II, the ''Kabaka'' (King) of Buganda. The deaths took place at a time when there was a three-way religious struggle for political influence at the Buganda royal court. The episode also occurred against the backdrop of the " Scramble for Africa" – the invasion, occupation, division, colonization and annexation of African territory by European powers. A few years after, the English Church Missionary Society used the deaths to enlist wider public support for the British acquisition of Uganda for the Empire. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga
Cyprian Kizito Lwanga (19 January 1953 – 3 April 2021) was a Ugandan Roman Catholic Prelate who served as Archbishop of Kampala from 2006 to his death. From 1996 to 2006, he served as Bishop of Kasana–Luweero. Background and education Lwanga was born on 19 January 1953 at Kyabakadde Village, in Naggalama Parish, in present-day Mukono District in the Buganda Region of Uganda, within the Diocese of Lugazi. Lwanga attended Kyabakadde Primary School. He entered Nyenga Seminary in 1964. Between 1972 and 1974, he studied at Katigondo National Major Seminary, in present-day Kalungu District. Africa Proconsularis was a Roman province on the northern African coast that was established in 146 BC following the defeat of Carthage in the Third Punic War.
