Joseph-Stanislas Perrault
Joseph-Stanislas Perrault (May 13, 1846 – March 9, 1907) was a Canadian lawyer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Charlevoix in the House of Commons of Canada from 1879 to 1881 as a Conservative member. Born in L'Assomption, Canada East, he was the son of Édouard Perrault and Émilie Mathurin dit Gerbourg. Perrault was educated at the college in L'Assomption and at the Université Laval. He was called to the Quebec bar in 1870 and set up practice at Quebec City and later at La Malbaie. Perrault served as crown prosecutor for the Saguenay district. In 1873, he married Maria Louisa Brault. Perrault was defeated by Pierre-Alexis Tremblay in the 1878 federal election but was elected in an 1879 by-election held after Tremblay's death. Charlevoix (electoral District)
Charlevoix was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1917 and from 1949 to 2004. The district was created in the British North America Act of 1867. It was abolished in 1914 when it was merged into Charlevoix—Montmorency. The district was created again in 1947 from Charlevoix—Saguenay. It was abolished again in 2003 when it was redistributed into Charlevoix—Montmorency and Manicouagan ridings. The best-known person to represent this riding is Brian Mulroney who was Member of Parliament for the riding, for part of his term as Prime Minister of Canada, from 1988 to 1993. Joseph-Édouard Perrault
Joseph-Édouard Perrault, (July 30, 1874 – June 13, 1948) was a lawyer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Arthabaska from 1916 to 1936 in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec as a Liberal member. He was born in La Malbaie, Quebec, the son of Joseph-Stanislas Perrault and Louisa Brault. Perrault was educated at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, at the Séminaire de Québec and the Université Laval. He articled in law with Charles Fitzpatrick, Nazaire-Nicolas Olivier and Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, was called to the Quebec bar in 1898 and set up practice in Arthabaska. He later practised in partnership with his brother Gustave and Wilfrid Girouard. From 1906 to 1916, he was crown prosecutor for Arthabaska district. In 1908, Perrault was named King's Counsel. He was bâtonnier for Arthabaska district from 1909 to 1911 and from 1921 to 1922; he was also bâtonnier for the Quebec bar in 1921 and 1922. Arthabaska, Quebec
Victoriaville is a town in central Quebec, Canada, on the Nicolet River. Victoriaville is the seat of Arthabaska Regional County Municipality and a part of the Centre-du-Québec (Bois-Francs) region. It is formed by the 1993 merger of Arthabaska, Saint-Victoire-d'Arthabaska and Victoriaville, the name of the last being used for the merged town. Description Victoriaville's size and location have earned it the title ''Capitale des Bois-Francs'', referring to the Bois-Francs region of the province. 1878 Canadian Federal Election
The 1878 Canadian federal election was held on September 17, 1878 to elect members of the House of Commons of the 4th Parliament of Canada. It resulted in the end of Prime Minister Alexander Mackenzie's Liberal government after only one term in office. Canada suffered an economic depression during Mackenzie's term, and his party was punished by voters for it. The Liberals' policy of free trade also hurt their support with the business establishment in Toronto and Montreal. Sir John A. La Malbaie, Quebec
La Malbaie is a municipality in the Charlevoix-Est Regional County Municipality in the Province of Quebec, Canada, situated on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River at the mouth of the Malbaie River. It was formerly known as Murray Bay. La Malbaie is the seat of the judicial district of Charlevoix. Although the main business district is located at the mouth of the Malbaie River, the town itself covers a vast area that extends inland along both sides of the Malbaie River and north and south along the St. Lawrence River. Pierre-Alexis "Pitre" Tremblay (December 27, 1827 – January 4, 1879) was a surveyor and Quebec political figure. He was a Liberal Member of Parliament from 1867 to 1875 and 1878 to 1879. He was born in La Malbaie, Lower Canada, in 1827 and studied at the Petit Séminaire of Quebec. Near the end of 1853, he began carrying out surveys in the Saguenay region. As a journalist, he contributed to a number of newspapers of the time: ''Le Canadien'', ''La Nation'', ''Le National'', ''L’Événement'' and ''L’Éclaireur''. He was elected to Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Chicoutimi—Saguenay in an 1865 by-election. Canada East (french: links=no, Canada-Est) was the northeastern portion of the United Province of Canada. Lord Durham's Report investigating the causes of the Upper and Lower Canada Rebellions recommended merging those two colonies. The new colony, known as the Province of Canada, was created by the Act of Union 1840 passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, having effect in 1841.
