Jose Peralta
José Rafael Peralta (November 10, 1971 – November 21, 2018) was an American politician who served in the New York State Assembly and New York State Senate. A member of the Democratic Party, he last represented District 13 in the State Senate, which includes the Queens neighborhoods of Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Woodside. He previously represented District 39 in the New York State Assembly, which is located in Queens, New York and includes Corona, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights. He was elected to the New York State Senate in a landslide on March 16, 2010. Peralta was a member of the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC), a group of Democratic senators who allied themselves with Senate Republicans. He was re-elected in 2012, 2014 and 2016, but was defeated in the 2018 Democratic primary. Peralta died of leukemia at the age of 47 on November 21, 2018. New York's 13th State Senate District
New York's 13th State Senate district is one of 63 districts in the New York State Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Jessica Ramos since 2019. Ramos defeated IDC-aligned incumbent José Peralta in the 2018 primary election; Peralta began his own Senate career by ousting corrupt Democratic incumbent Hiram Monserrate in a 2010 special election. Geography District 13 is centered around the Queens neighborhood of Jackson Heights, and includes Corona, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, and parts of Astoria and Woodside. Toby Stavisky
Toby Ann Stavisky (née Goldhaar, born June 26, 1939) is an American politician serving as a member of the New York State Senate, having held a seat since 1999. She represents the 11th district, which comprises parts of Queens. Life and career Stavisky was born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She attended New York City public schools before graduating from Bronx High School of Science, and Syracuse University, which she attended on an academic scholarship. The Senator completed graduate courses at Hunter College and Queens College. After working in the actuarial department of a major insurance company, Stavisky taught Social Studies in the New York City high schools. Brian McLaughlin (politician)
Brian M. McLaughlin is a former American Democratic politician and labor leader from Flushing, Queens. McLaughlin was a New York Assemblyman elected in 1992 to represent the 25th district in New York City. He was also elected, in June 1995, as the President of the Council on New York Labor. McLaughlin was arrested October 17, 2006, on charges of stealing more than $2 million from the State of New York and labor unions. After his arrest, he announced that he would not run for re-election, and left office at the end of 2006. In March 2008, he pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering and embezzlement.
