Jose Maria Veloso
Jose Maria Morte Veloso (April 30, 1886 – April 13, 1969) was a Filipino lawyer, politician and legislator. Son of Isidro Veloso and Casiana Morte and educated at Cebu's Seminary College in 1903, he proceeded to take up law at the University of Santo Tomas, became a lawyer in 1909 in the same year he graduated from the university, and in the next year, established a law firm called Veloso and Singson. From 1912 to 1922, he was the governor of the province of Leyte, although he relinquished the position on his second term to serve as senator from the 9th district from 1916 to 1919. He was also elected as representative of Leyte's 3rd district from 1922 to 1925 and the 5th district from 1935 to 1938 as an assemblyman and from 1945 to 1946 as a post-Commonwealth representative. Senate Of The Philippines
The Senate of the Philippines (Filipino: ''Senado ng Pilipinas'', also ''Mataas na Kapulungan ng Pilipinas'' or "upper chamber") is the upper house of Congress of the bicameral legislature of the Philippines with the House of Representatives as the lower house. The Senate is composed of 24 senators who are elected at-large (the country forms one district in its elections) under plurality-at-large voting. Senators serve six-year terms with a maximum of two consecutive terms, with half of the senators elected in staggered elections every three years. When the Senate was restored by the 1987 Constitution, the 24 senators who were elected in 1987 served until 1992. The Democrata Party, also known as ''Partido Democrata Nacional'' () was a political party in early 20th century Philippines, when the Philippines was an insular territory of the United States. It functioned as an opposition party against the ruling Nacionalista Party. History The Democrata Party came from the remnants of the Progresista Party, which had been defeated by the Nacionalistas.
