José Luis Escobar Alas
José Luis Escobar Alas (born 10 March 1959) is a Salvadoran Catholic prelate who has served as Archbishop of San Salvador since 2009. Escobar served as Bishop of San Vicente beginning in 2005, prior to his elevation to San Salvador on 27 December 2008. He was previously an auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of San Vicente since 2002, having entered the priesthood in 1982. Biography Escobar was born in the town of Suchitoto in the department of Cuzcatlán. He studied for the priesthood at San José de la Montaña Seminary in San Salvador before entering the Seminario Mayor de Morelia in Mexico. He later graduated with a philosophy degree from Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on August 15, 1982. Morelia (; from 1545 to 1828 known as Valladolid; Otomi language, Otomi: ) is a city and municipal seat of the municipalities of Mexico, municipality of Morelia in the north-central part of the state of Michoacán in central Mexico. Fernando Llort
Fernando Llort Choussy (7 April 1949 – 10 August 2018) was a Salvadoran artist, often dubbed "El Salvador's National Artist" by the Foundation for Self Sufficiency in Central America (now called EcoViva). Fernando Llort was a man of passion, spirituality, religion, community, and an idealist. At the beginning of Llort travels abroad, his intention was originally to study to become a priest. Llort was introduced to two seminaries, one in La Ceja a small town in Medellin, Colombia, another Toulouse, France in which he would not commit to as his passion for art took over. He is known for teaching the citizens of the small town of La Palma, Chalatenango, how to make a living through art. The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Savior () is the cathedral church of the Catholic Archdiocese of San Salvador in San Salvador, El Salvador. History The cathedral site is the place where the old Temple of Santo Domingo (dedicated to St. Dominic) once stood. It is on the northern side of Plaza Barrios, named after the Salvadoran military hero, Gerardo Barrios. The eastern periphery of Plaza Barrios is the old National Palace building. John Paul II
Pope John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła; 18 May 19202 April 2005) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 16 October 1978 until Death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, his death in 2005. A vicar general (previously, archdeacon) is the principal deputy of the bishop or archbishop of a diocese or an archdiocese for the exercise of administrative authority and possesses the title of local ordinary. As vicar of the bishop, the vicar general exercises the bishop's ordinary executive power over the entire diocese and, thus, is the highest official in a diocese or other particular church after the diocesan bishop or his equivalent in canon law.
