Jorma Whittaker
Marmoset is an American indie rock band based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The band was formed in 1995. Marmoset's members are Jorma Whittaker (bass and vocals), Dave Jablonski (guitar and vocals), and Jason Cavan (drums). Frequent contributor and former full-time member LonPaul Ellrich died in 2008. The vinyl repressing of the album ''Record in Red'' is dedicated to his memory. Marmoset has multiple releases on the Secretly Canadian label. In 2009, Marmoset signed to Joyful Noise Recordings. Critical reception In a review of ''Florist Fired'', ''Pitchfork'' called the band "one of Secretly Canadian's first and finest discoveries." In its 4-star review, AllMusic wrote that ''Today It's You'' is "reminiscent of indie-rock in the early 1980s -- touches of the occasionally dark, Velvet Underground-influenced jangle of the Feelies, Mission of Burma, the less cutesy work of the Television Personalities, even the later work of Wire." Melody Inn (nightclub)
The Melody Inn (also known as The Mel) is a bar and live music club in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It is estimated that over 7,000 bands and musical acts have played the Melody Inn since 2001. History The Melody Inn opened in 1935 as a piano bar. It was owned by Lou Swain. In the 1980s, the Melody Inn served lunch and dinner. In 2001, it was purchased by Dave Brown and Rob Ondrish, both whom had never run their own business before owning the bar. Ondrish worked at the Melody Inn in the 1980s. In 1995, Ondrish met Brown at BMG Music, where they were both working. The two would visit the Melody Inn together. Ondrish started working part-time at the bar again. Brown started working there, too. The owner told Brown he wanted to sell the business. Brown proposed buying the bar to Ondrish, and they agreed. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. Joyful Noise Recordings is an independent record label from Indianapolis, Indiana. The label was founded in 2003 in Bloomington, Indiana by Karl Hofstetter, who also played drums on many of the label's first releases. Joyful Noise maintains an active roster of over 30 bands playing various musical styles, though according to the label, each artist "in one way or another bridges the gap between pop and noise." Secretly Canadian is an American independent record label based in Bloomington, Indiana, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Secretly Canadian is a label included in Secretly Group, which also includes Dead Oceans and Jagjaguwar. Secretly Group includes the three record labels as well as a music publisher known as Secretly Publishing, representing artists, writers, film makers, producers, and comedians.
