Jorge Rivera López
Jorge Rivera López (born 19 March 1934) is an Argentine actor of television and film. Career During the 1980s military dictatorship, López, along with Luis Brandoni, Roberto Cossa, Osvaldo Dragún and Pepe Soriano, accompanied by Nobel Peace Prize winner (1980) Adolfo Esquivel and writer Ernesto Sábato formed a group called Argentine Open Theatre, ''Teatro Abierto'' (Open Theater) in an attempt to reinvent independent theater separated from government propaganda and approval. Despite threats, they opened with the declaration that they were against dictatorship and government intervention in the arts. On the opening night, Rivera López read the “Declaration of the Principles” claiming for all the participants their right to freedom of opinion and expression. Three works per day were presented for a full week in the Tabaris Theatre, to an estimated audience of 25,000. The Deceased Correa (in Spanish La Difunta Correa) is a semi-Paganism, pagan folk saint, legendary figure in folk-religion, for which a number of people in Argentina and Chile, especially among the popular classes, feel a great devotion. It has spread, in a limited way, to neighbouring countries such as Uruguay. Every year since its inception in 1840, miracles are said to have occurred at the shrine of La Difunta Correa, and thousands of people have visited there to pay their respects. The shrine is situated in the small town of Vallecito, 1160 km from Buenos Aires and 63 km from the city of San Juan. ''La Mary'' is a 1974 Argentine romantic-drama film directed by Daniel Tinayre starring Susana Giménez and Carlos Monzón. The screenplay is by José A. Martínez Suárez and Augusto R. Giustozzi, based on the 1965 short story of the same name by Emilio Perina, included in ''Historias apasionadas: La Mary y El Fiscal'' and later released as a novel with the release of the film. The film is set in the 1940s and centers on Mary (Giménez), a young girl from a working-class neighbourhood in Buenos Aires who has the reputation of being able to predict the future.
