Jorge Aguilar Mora
Jorge Aguilar Mora (9 January 1946 – 5 January 2024) was a Mexican essayist, novelist, poet, professor and literary critic. Biography Aguilar Mora studied Hispanic language and literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and received his doctorate from El Colegio de México. He was a professor at both institutions. During the 1968 Movement, he was a representative of El Colegio de México assembly and was arrested. He had to leave the country and settled in Paris with a scholarship, where he established a relationship with Roland Barthes, who became his teacher. Aguilar Mora spread Barthes' ideas and put him in contact with other Mexican intellectuals, whom he influenced. Among Aguilar Mora's essays, the one he dedicated to Octavio Paz in 1978, titled ''La divina pareja: Historia y mito en Octavio Paz'', was especially important. Gabriela Brimmer
Gabriela "Gaby" Raquel Brimmer (September 12, 1947 – January 2, 2000), was a Mexican writer and activist for people with disabilities. She was born in Mexico City, the daughter of Sari and Michel Brimmer, Austrian Jewish immigrants. She had a brother, David. Gaby was born with cerebral palsy and since childhood learned to act in a world that has difficulty accepting diversity. Brimmer's caretaker Florencia Sánchez Morales was largely responsible for teaching her to communicate. Brimmer's life was chronicled in the film '' Gaby: A True Story''. In 1979, her Spanish-language autobiography ''Gaby Brimmer,'' coauthored by Elena Poniatowska, was published by Editorial Grijalbo in Mexico City. An English version translated by Trudy Balch appeared in 2009. ''La Jornada'' (''The Working Day'') is one of Mexico City's leading daily newspapers. It was established in 1984 by Carlos Payán Velver. The current editor ''(directora general)'' is Carmen Lira Saade. ''La Jornada'' has presence in eight states of the Mexican Republic with local editions in Aguascalientes, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, San Luis Potosí, Puebla and Veracruz ''(La Jornada de Oriente).'' As of 2006 it had approximately 287,000 readers in Mexico City, and, according to them, their website has approximately 180,000 daily page views. Margit Frenk
Margit Frenk Freund (in full, Margarita Ana María Frenk y Freund), sometimes known by her married name, Margit Frenk Alatorre (born 21 August 1925 in Hamburg), is a German-Mexican philologist, folklorist and translator. She has been an Academic Numerary of the Mexican Language Academy since 1993. She is also a Doctor Honoris Causa at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Biography Frenk's Jewish parents moved the family from Germany to Mexico in 1930 as the Nazis gained power. Her mother was Mariana Frenk-Westheima writer of Spanish-Mexican prose, hispanist, lecturer of literature, museum expert and a Mexican translator. Her father was Ernst Frenk, a physician. After he died Frenk's mother remarried, to another German Jewish refugee, Paul Westheim. In 1946, she spent some time at Bryn Mawr College on a scholarship, studying English Literature and Spanish Theater of the 16th Century.
