Jordan At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Jordan competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's tenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. The Jordan Olympic Committee selected a team of eight athletes, seven men and one woman, to compete in six sports at the Games. The nation's roster in Rio de Janeiro was also a replication to those sent to Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, respectively, but had the highest percentage of men in its Olympic history since 1984. Among the sports represented by the athletes, Jordan made its Olympic debut in triathlon. The Jordanian team featured two returning athletes from London 2012: Methkal Abu Drais in men's marathon, and Talita Baqlah, who became the first swimmer to attend two Olympic Games, along with her younger brother Khader. Taekwondo At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Taekwondo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 17 to 20 August at the Carioca Arena 3 inside the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca. Around 128 taekwondo fighters competed in eight weight categories; four for men, and four for women. Qualification Taekwondo competition at these Games featured a total of 128 athletes, 64 in each gender, and 16 in each of the eight weight categories. Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) was allowed to enter up to a maximum of eight competitors, four of each gender, based on the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Olympic rankings, such that an athlete per NOC must be among the top six in each weight category. The International Judo Federation (IJF) was founded in July 1951. The IJF was originally composed of judo federations from Europe and Argentina. Countries from four continents were affiliated over the next ten years. Today the IJF has 200 National Federations on all continents. There are over 20 million people around the globe who practice judo, according to the IJF. Anthony Victor James Yoka (born 28 April 1992) is a French professional boxer who has held the European heavyweight title since 2021. As an amateur he represented France at the 2015 World Championships and 2016 Olympics, winning gold medals in the super-heavyweight division. Mihai Nistor (born 5 November 1990) is a Romanian professional boxer. A southpaw, he is best known for stopping Anthony Joshua at the 39th European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2011.
