Jordan Nikolić
Jordan Nikolić ( sr-cyr, Јордан Николић; 11 May 1933 – 26 April 2018) was a Serbian folk singer who interpreted traditional songs from Kosovo. Biography Nikolić was born on 11 May 1933, in Prizren, Kingdom of Yugoslavia. His parents were born in Sredačka župa, from where they moved to Prizren. His father played the gusle. In primary school and in gymnasium, he was a member of the choir. Jordan Nikolić graduated the Yugoslav literature and Serbian language at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. He found his interest while studying Serbian folk music in school. His first recording was made in 1961, in the Radio Pristina, and two years later he became the music editor of the same radio station. In 1968 he began recording for programs of Radio Belgrade, spreading the rich repertoire of Kosovo folk songs. PGP RTS
PGP-RTS ( sr, Produkcija gramofonskih ploča Radio televizije Srbije) is a major record label based in Belgrade, Serbia. It is a successor of PGP-RTB which was established in 1959 in Belgrade, then capital of Socialist Republic of Serbia and Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, in 1993, the company changed its name to PGP-RTS, which is the music production branch of the Radio Television of Serbia. Serbian folk music ( sr, српска народна музика / ''srpska narodna muzika'') refers to, in the narrow sense, the "older" style of Serbian folk music, predating the "newer" ( sr, link=no, новокомпонована / ''novokomponovana'', "newly composed") style which emerged in the 1970s and 1980s as a result of urbanisation. Kosovo Serbs
Kosovo Serbs are one of the ethnic groups of Kosovo. There are around 100,000 Kosovo Serbs as of 2014 and about half of them live in North Kosovo. Other Serb communities live in southern Kosovo. After Albanians, they form the largest ethnic community in Kosovo (4-7%). The medieval Kingdom of Serbia (1217–1346) and the Serbian Empire (1346–1371) included parts of the territory of Kosovo until its annexation by the Ottomans following the Battle of Kosovo (1389), considered one of the most notable events of Serbian history. Afterwards, it was a part of the Serbian Despotate. Modern Serbian historiography considers Kosovo in this period to be the political, religious and cultural core of the medieval Serbian state. Staniša Stošić (Станиша Стошић) (July 26, 1945 – April 7, 2008) was a Serbian folk singer known for melodies from his home region of Vranje in Southern Serbia, which earned him the nickname of "Serbian Pavarotti" and "Father of the southern melodies".
