Jordan ( ar, الأردن; tr. ' ), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,; tr. ' is a country in Western Asia. Table tennis at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the Peking University Gymnasium from September 7 to September 15. Classification Players are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows players to compete against others with a similar level of function. Table tennis has ten numbered classes, with lower numbers corresponding to more severe disability. Classes one through five compete in wheelchairs and classes six through ten compete while standing. Events Twenty-four events were contested. The events are men's and women's team and individual competitions for the various disability classifications. Powerlifting at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the Beihang University Gymnasium from September 9 to September 16. Any athlete who met a minimum level of disability (as determined by the IPC Powerlifting Classification Committee) could take part in these events. Omar Qarada
Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada ( ar, عمر قرادة; born 1 March 1981) is a Jordanian Paralympic powerlifter. He is a three-time medalist at the Summer Paralympics, including gold in 2021, and a four-time medalist, including two gold medals, at the World Para Powerlifting Championships. He is the first powerlifter representing Jordan to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. Career Qarada represented Jordan at the 2008, 2016, and the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He won a medal on all three of those occasions: in 2008, he won the silver medal in the men's 48kg and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the men's 49kg event, as well as gold in the men's 49kg at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Khetam Abuawad
Khetam Kamal Hasan Abuawad (born 8 October 1974) is a Jordanian paralympic athlete who has spina bifida and has won two medals at the Summer Paralympics and has been competing for Jordan internationally since 1998. She is currently ranked world number one in singles class 5 and world number six in teams class. Sporting success Early career Her first international competition was the ISMWSF World Wheelchair Games in Stoke Mandeville in 1998, where she also won her first major title: she won two gold medals for singles class 5 and women's team class 2-5 and a silver medal for the wheelchair open competition.
