Sir Jonathan Trelawny (17 December 1568 – 21 June 1604), of Pool in Menheniot, Cornwall, was an English Member of Parliament. Trelawny was the posthumous younger son of John Trelawny of Pool (who had been High Sheriff of the county); his elder brother died in infancy and he inherited the estate. Sir Jonathan Trelawny, 2nd Baronet (ca. 1623 – 5 March 1681), of Trelawny in the parish of Pelynt in Cornwall, England, was a Cornish Member of Parliament. Origins He was the fourth child and eldest son and heir of Sir John Trelawny, 1st Baronet (d. 16 February 1664), Sheriff of Cornwall for 1630. Career He entered Parliament in 1660 as a Member of Parliament for his family's pocket borough of East Looe in Cornwall and the prestigious county seat of Cornwall in 1661. He was elected for both East Looe and Liskeard in 1679 but was not called on to choose between them, and again in 1681, but died before Parliament convened. West Looe, often spelt Westlow or alternative Westlowe, in Cornwall, England, was a rotten borough represented in the House of Commons of England from 1535 to 1707, in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800, and in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1832. It elected two Members of Parliament (MP) by the bloc vote system of election. It was disfranchised in the Reform Act 1832. History West Looe was one of a number of Cornish boroughs enfranchised in the Tudor period, and like almost all of them it was a rotten borough from the start, with the size and importance of the community that comprised it quite inadequate to justify its representation.
