Jonathan Ryan (actor)
Jonathan Ryan is an Irish actor. Ryan has also played Gerry Adams and Proinsias De Rossa on screen. Biography As a pupil at C.B.C. Monkstown in 1963, Jonathan played rhythm guitar and shared vocals in the Rhythm & Blues band ROOTZGROOP, with Robbie Brennan, Rodney Williams, Dave McAnaney and Paul Brady. Ryan's acting career began while still a full-time student, making his debut playing ‘Dan’ opposite Lynn Redgrave and Dan O'Herlihy in ''A Better Place'' at Dublin's Gate Theatre in 1972. He turned full-time in 1978 and since then has worked extensively on stage, in TV, film and radio and has been one of Ireland's busiest voiceover artists for forty-two years. He has recorded TV and radio commercials for clients worldwide, winning several awards for his work in this field. Gerry Adams
Gerard Adams ( ga, Gearóid Mac Ádhaimh; born 6 October 1948) is an Irish republican politician who was the president of Sinn Féin between 13 November 1983 and 10 February 2018, and served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for Louth from 2011 to 2020. From 1983 to 1992 and from 1997 to 2011, he followed the policy of abstentionism as a Member of Parliament (MP) of the British Parliament for the Belfast West constituency. Adams first became involved in Irish republicanism in the late 1960s, and had been an established figure in Irish activism for more than a decade before his 1983 election to Parliament. Bosco (TV Series)
Bosco is an Irish children's television programme produced during the late 1970s and 1980s. It was produced and shown by RTÉ in Ireland. Designed by Jan Mitchell, Bosco was voiced by Jonathan Ryan initially, in the pilot series that was broadcast, with four presenters per show, in 1979. When the show went into full-time production in 1980, with two presenters per show, Miriam Lambert took over. From the 1981 season onwards, Paula Lambert took over. Bosco's name was chosen by Helen Quinn, sister of presenter Marian Richardson. It ran for 386 episodes, ending production in 1987. The show was continually repeated before (and later during) ''The Den'' daily until 30 September 1996, when it was replaced by ''The Morbegs'' before officially ending on 26 November 1998. Omagh (film)
''Omagh'' is a 2004 film dramatising the events surrounding the Omagh bombing and its aftermath, co-produced by Irish state broadcaster RTÉ and UK network Channel 4, and directed by Pete Travis. It was first shown on television in both countries in May, 2004. Michael Gallagher, whose son Aiden (Paul Kelly) was killed in the bombing, is played by Gerard McSorley, originally from Omagh. Out of respect for the residents of the town, it was filmed on location in Navan, County Meath, Republic of Ireland. The film ends with the Julie Miller song ''Broken Things'', which was performed by local singer Juliet Turner at the memorial for the victims of the Omagh bombing. Reception Rotten Tomatoes reported that 88% of critics gave the film positive reviews, with an average score of 7.2/10, however this is based upon a sample of only 8 reviews. ''Kidnapped'' is a 1995 TV adventure drama film directed by Ivan Passer and starring Armand Assante as Highlander Alan Breck and Brian McCardie as Lowlander David Balfour. Among the supporting actors are Michael Kitchen and Brian Blessed. The film was based on the 1886 novel ''Kidnapped'' by author Robert Louis Stevenson. Christopher Reeve had originally been cast as Breck prior to his spinal cord injury in a horse race which left him a quadriplegic on May 27, 1995.
