Jonathan Kwesi Lamptey
Jonathan Kwesi Lamptey (born 10 May 1909, date of death unknown) was a Ghanaian politician. He was a senior figure in the CPP who later joined the opposition, subsequently playing leading roles in the government of the second republic. Early life and education He was born in Sekondi. He was educated locally, attending Mfantsipim School which he completed in 1931. He then proceeded to Exeter University and the University of London. Career His career began as a science teacher at Fijai Secondary School, Sekondi. He got trained and practiced as a lawyer. He became deputy chairman of the CPP in 1950 and in 1951 he was elected into the legislative assembly of Sekondi and became junior minister of finance. Following the 1966 coup he was made Chairman of the State Gold Mining cooperation. Sekondi
Sekondi-Takoradi is a city in Ghana comprising the twin cities of Sekondi and Takoradi. It is the capital of Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and the Western Region of Ghana. Sekondi-Takoradi is the region's largest city and an industrial and commercial centre, with a population of 445,205 people (2012). The chief industries in Sekondi-Takoradi are timber, cocoa processing, plywood, shipbuilding, its harbour and railway repair, and recently, sweet crude oil and crude oil. The Supreme Military Council (SMC) was the ruling government of Ghana from 9 October 1975 to 4 June 1979. Its chairman was Colonel I.K. Acheampong. He was also the Head of state of Ghana due to his chairmanship. SMC I and II The period of the SMC can be divided into two eras. Convention People's Party (Ghana) Politicians
The Convention People's Party (CPP) is a socialist political party in Ghana based on the ideas of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP was formed in June 1949 after Nkrumah broke away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). Nkrumah was the then appointed Secretaty General of the UGCC when he was arrested by the leader of the UGCC and imprisoned for an alleged thought, plans and power against Kwame Nkrumah's leadership. Kwame Nkrumah then formed the Convention People's Party with support of some UGCC members and had a purpose for self governance. Upon Kwame Nkrumah's leadership with the CPP, he orgranized a non violent protest and strike for support of the purpose for self-governance which took him to imprisonment for a second time, but he was released after winning a massive vote by the CPP following the colonies election general election whilst he was in prison. Mfantsipim School Alumni
Mfantsipim is an all-boys boarding secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana, established by the Methodist Church in 1876 to foster intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth on the then Gold Coast. Its founding name was Wesleyan High School and the first headmaster was James Picot, a French scholar, who was only 18 years old on his appointment. After changing its name to Wesleyan Collegiate School and Richmond College, the school, in 1905, merged with another Cape-Coast-based public high school established by John Mensah Sarbah (an old student of Wesley High School), who had established his own school called "Mfantsipim" as a rival of the Methodist-run school. John Mensah Sarbah died five years after the merger, at the age of 46, leaving the school wholly in the hands of the Methodist Church. This is a list of members elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Gold Coast in 1951. 38 of the members were elected directly by the general population and 37 others elected by territorial councils. There were in addition 3 ex-officio members appointed by the Governor of the Gold Coast and six others representing commercial interests. The CPP won all the 5 seats from the urban areas and 29 of the 33 seats from the rural areas.
