Jonathan Kim
Jonathan Hyung-joon Kim (born 1960) is a South Korean film producer. He has produced five of the country's top 50 highest-grossing films of all time including ''Silmido'', the first film to surpass 10 million domestic ticket sales. He has received the Daejong Award for Best Picture and Best Executive Producer. Silmido (film)
''Silmido'' is a 2003 South Korean action drama film directed by Kang Woo-suk. It is based on the 1999 novel ''Silmido'' by Baek Dong-ho, which in turn is based on the true story of Unit 684. Some parts of the film are dramatizations, as the actual details of certain events remain unknown. The film was both critically well received and a financial success, and was the first film in South Korea to attract a box office audience of over 10 million viewers. Plot On 21 January 1968, 31 North Korean commandos of Unit 124 are shown to have infiltrated South Korea in a failed mission to assassinate President Park Chung-hee. As a means of retaliation, the Republic of Korea Armed Forces assembled a team of 31 social outcasts including criminals on death row and life imprisonment, in a plot to kill Kim Il-sung. The Grand Bell Awards (), also known as the Daejong Film Awards, is an awards ceremony presented annually by The Motion Pictures Association of Korea for excellence in film in South Korea. The Grand Bell Awards retains prestige as the oldest continuous film awards held in South Korea, and has been called the Korean equivalent of the American Academy Awards. History The ceremony has been hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Information since 1962. The awards ceased for a couple years beginning in 1969, but were revived in 1972 after the establishment of the Korea Motion Picture Promotion Association, in an effort to stimulate the then-stagnant film industry. ''Lies'' ( 거짓말, ''Gojitmal'') is a South Korean erotic drama film adapted from the banned novel ''Tell me a Lie'' by Jang Jung Il, which depicts a sadomasochistic sexual relationship between a 38-year-old sculptor and an 18-year-old highschool student. The film was shot in a semi-cinéma vérité style and features interviews with the author and cast spliced in between scenes. Intended to provoke, the film contains full-frontal nudity, unsimulated sex, coprophilia, and criticisms of South Korean society. ''Ditto'' (; lit. "Sympathy" or "The same feeling") is a 2000 South Korean science-fiction romance film directed by Kim Jung-kwon. Two students in the same school, one in 1979, the other in 2000, are somehow able to talk to each other using amateur radio. Plot The film begins with Yoon So-eun (Kim Ha-neul), a student at Silla University eagerly awaiting a certain student Dong-hee (Park Yong-woo) returning to school after serving in the army.
