Jonathan Elworthy
Jonathan Herbert Elworthy (1 July 1936 – 17 June 2005) was a New Zealand Member of parliament, Member of Parliament for Oamaru (New Zealand electorate), Oamaru and Waitaki (New Zealand electorate), Waitaki, in the South Island, representing the New Zealand National Party, National Party. Early life Elworthy was born in 1936, and received his education at Christ's College, Christchurch, Christ's College and Lincoln University (New Zealand), Lincoln College. He was the brother of Peter Elworthy. Member of Parliament Elworthy represented the Oamaru (New Zealand electorate), Oamaru electorate (–1978) and the Waitaki (New Zealand electorate), Waitaki electorate (–1984) in the New Zealand House of Representatives. In the , he was defeated by Jim Sutton. He was Minister of Lands and Minister of Forests from 1981 to 1984 under Robert Muldoon. New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal
The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal was a commemorative medal awarded in New Zealand in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and was awarded to approximately 3,000 people. Background The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal was instituted by Royal Warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 9 February 1990. It was to be awarded only during 1990 to about 3,000 people selected in recognition of the contribution they have made to some aspect of New Zealand life, especially the various 1990 celebrations. Subsequently 3,632 medals were awarded. Allan Dick (politician)
Allan David Dick (1 September 1915 – 15 March 1992) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Dick was born in 1915 at Dunedin. He received his education at Otago Boys' High School. After school, he farmed at North Otago, Kurow and then Lilybank Station at the head of Lake Tekapo in the McKenzie Country. He bought Lilybank in 1937. In 1962, he won the 1962 Waitaki by-election, after the sudden death of the Hon. Thomas Hayman, who had been an MP from . He was one of six candidates for the National nomination in this largely rural and safe National seat. He represented the Waitaki electorate to 1969, and then the electorate from to 1972, when he was defeated. Bill Laney
William Ross Laney (4 May 1913 – 7 August 1998) was a New Zealand Member of Parliament representing the New Zealand Labour Party, Labour Party, and Mayor of Oamaru. Biography Early life and career Laney was born in 1913 in Weston, New Zealand, Weston. He graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Arts, BA in 1937. He was also a New Zealand Universities rugby and cricket blue and later Otago Rugby Football Union, Otago rugby captain. Laney then became a teacher of agriculture at Waitaki Boys' High School. Political career Laney's political career began in 1951 when he was elected as a member of the Oamaru Borough Council in a by-election. He was then Mayor of Oamaru for 18 years from 1956 to 1974.
