Jonas Forsslund
Jonas Forsslund (1754, Fors Parish, Jämtland - 9 March 1809, Stockholm) was a Swedish portrait painter and sculptor. Biography While working as a sales assistant in Uppsala, he spent his spare time creating pastel paintings. Some of these were brought to the attention of Duke (later King) Charles XIII of Sweden, Charles XIII during a visit to Uppsala University, and Forsslund came under his patronage. He became a student at the Royal Institute of Art, where his primary instructor was Gustaf Lundberg. In 1794, he was named a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and became a Professor in 1800. His best known works, almost all portraits, were those of King Gustav III of Sweden, Gustav III with Sophia Magdalena of Denmark and their son, King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden, Gustav IV Adolf with Queen Frederica of Baden, which is now at Gripsholm Castle, and one of a certain "Miss Piper", bearing flowers to her sister's grave. Jämtland
Jämtland (; no, Jemtland or , ; Jamtish: ''Jamtlann''; la, Iemptia) is a historical province () in the centre of Sweden in northern Europe. It borders Härjedalen and Medelpad to the south, Ångermanland to the east, Lapland to the north and Trøndelag and Norway to the west. Jämtland covers an area of 34,009 square kilometres, 8.3% of Sweden's total area and is the second largest province in Sweden. It has a population of 115,331, the majority of whom live in , the area surrounding lake Storsjön. Östersund is Jämtland's only city and is the 24th most populous city in Sweden. Gripsholm Castle
Gripsholm Castle ( sv, Gripsholms slott) is a castle in Mariefred, Södermanland, Sweden. It is located by lake Mälaren in south central Sweden, in the municipality of Strängnäs, about 60 km west of Stockholm. Since Gustav Vasa, Gripsholm has belonged to the Swedish Royal Family and was used as one of their residences until the 18th century. It is now a museum, but is still considered to be a palace at the disposal of the King and as such it is part of the Crown palaces in Sweden. Nationalmuseum (or National Museum of Fine Arts) is the national gallery of Sweden, located on the peninsula Blasieholmen in central Stockholm. Royal Academy Of Turku
The Royal Academy of Turku or the Royal Academy of Ã…bo ( sv, Kungliga Akademin i Ã…bo or ; la, Regia Academia Aboensis; fi, Turun akatemia) was the first university in Finland, and the only Finnish university that was founded when the country still was a part of Sweden.
