Jona (SG)
Jona is a former municipality and since January 2007 part of the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the ''Wahlkreis'' (constituency) of See-Gaster in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Before the merger with Rapperswil, the former municipality of Jona comprised the villages of Jona, Bollingen, Busskirch, Curtiberg, Kempraten-Lenggis, Wagen and Wurmsbach (Wurmsbach Abbey). Geography The former municipality of Jona extended from the eastern shore of the main part of Lake Zürich (Kempraten) to the northern shore of ''Obersee'', the upper or eastern division of Lake Zurich (Bollingen, Busskirch, Wurmsbach). The Obersee ("upper lake") is the smaller of the two parts of ''Zürichsee'' (Lake Zürich) in the cantons of St. Gallen and Schwyz in Switzerland. Rüti, Zürich
Rüti (sometimes written as ''Rüti ZH'' in order to distinguish it from other "Rütis") is a Swiss town and a municipality in the district of Hinwil in the canton of Zürich. The river Jona flows through the town. History In 807, Rüti's quarter ''Fägswil'' was first mentioned in a document of the Abbey of Saint Gall. In a document of the German Emperor Otto II (972), the municipality was described as ''Riutun'', the Old High German word for ''Roden'' (= to convert forest into farmland), and later forwarded to the name of ''Rüti''. In 1206 the Rüti Monastery was given by Lütold IV, Duke of Regensberg, and the present building that is now the Reformed church was completed in 1283. Jona (river)
The Jona is a river in the Swiss cantons of Zürich and St. Gallen. Geography The Jona rises on the eastern slope of Bachtel hill near Gibswil and Fischenthal in the Zürcher Oberland. Passing an impressive waterfall, the river flows near the municipality of Wald through a little valley eastward and changes its direction to the south by a ravine, which a viaduct of the '' Tösstalbahn'' ( S26) is crossing. The Jona turns to the west, dividing the municipalities Dürnten and Rüti, passing the village of Tann and Rüti in the so-called ''Tannertobel''. Once again, it changes its direction, flowing to the south (and slightly meandering) through Rüti and the so-called ''Joner Wald'' (forest of Rapperswil-Jona), followed by the S-Bahn Zürich lines S5 and S15. Wurmsbach Abbey
Wurmsbach Abbey (Kloster Mariazell-Wurmsbach) is a monastery of Cistercian nuns located in Bollingen, a locality of Rapperswil-Jona, in the Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. It is located on the north shore of upper Lake Zürich. The house is a part of the Order of Cistercians of the Common Observance (O.Cist.). History Count Rudolf of Rapperswil gave his castle of Wurmsbach together with a considerable area of land in 1259 for the foundation of a religious house and the abbey was established. It was initially a dependency of the Cistercian monks of Abbey of St. Urban in Wettingen. The abbey church was dedicated in 1281. Bollinger Sandstein was used for the construction of the abbey by dedicated quarries. See-Gaster is a constituency (''Wahlkreis'') in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The Wahlkreis (Community Identification Number#Switzerland, SFOS number 1726) has been established on June 10, 2001, with an area of .
