David Yutaka Ige (; born January 15, 1957) is an American politician and engineer who served as the eighth governor of Hawaii from 2014 to 2022. A Democrat, he served in the Hawaii State Senate from 1995 to 2014 and the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1985 to 1995. Kurt Fevella is an American politician serving as a member of the Hawaii Senate, representing the 19th District since 2018. He is the first Republican to be elected to the Hawaii Senate since Sam Slom in 2014. He is the Minority Leader. Career Fevella was born and raised in Ewa Beach, graduating from James Campbell High School. Before running for office, Fevella was a school custodian at Ewa Makai Middle School. Daniel Kahikina Akaka (; September 11, 1924 – April 6, 2018) was an American educator and politician who served as a United States Senator from Hawaii from 1990 to 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Akaka was the first U.S. Senator of Native Hawaiian ancestry. Born in Honolulu, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He attended the University of Hawaii, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. Originally a high school teacher, Akaka went on to serve as a principal for six years.
