Jon Godel
Jon Godel was the Editing, Editor of Independent Radio News, IRN. He was appointed Editor of Independent Radio News, IRN in 1998, moving back to radio after a period in television news. He was employed by ITN until 2009, and was responsible for the delivery of IRN content to radio stations across the UK with an approximate daily audience of 26 million listeners. The last bulletin was broadcast from ITN at 1300 by Moira Alderson on Tuesday 3 March 2009 before BSkyB took over the Independent Radio News, IRN contract. Jon Godel expanded his role at ITN to take in Multimedia with a brief to develop new business in the mobile phone and radio environments while helping to drive uptake of new 3G services developed by the ITN Multimedia Department, which has now been rebranded ITN ON. Independent Radio News provides a service of news bulletins, audio and copy to commercial radio stations in the United Kingdom and beyond. The managing director, Tim Molloy, succeeded long-term MD John Perkins in November 2009. Perkins had been MD of IRN since 1989. IRN's shareholders are Global (54.6%), Bauer Radio (22.3%), ITN (19.7%) and The Wireless Group (3.4%). History and background IRN launched on 8 October 1973, with the first bulletin read at 06:00 by Australian newsreader Ken Guy on the opening morning of Britain's first commercial radio station, LBC.
