Jon Carter (American Football)
Jon Stacy Carter (born March 12, 1965) is a former football defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He also was a member of the Raleigh–Durham Skyhawks and Frankfurt Galaxy in the World League of American Football (WLAF). He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. Early years Carter attended Varnado High School in Varnado, Louisiana, where he twice received All-state honors at tight end and defensive end. He also practiced basketball and track. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was initially switched to defensive tackle. He became a four-year starter on defensive lines that included Chris Doleman, Bob Buczkowski, Tony Woods, Lorenzo Freeman, Burt Grossman, Marc Spindler, Tony Siragusa and Tom Sims. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Tom Sims (American Football)
Thomas Sidney Sims (born April 18, 1967) is an American football coach and former defensive tackle. He is the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for Wayne State University, positions he has held since 2023. He also played four seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts. He was drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 1990 NFL draft. He first played college football for the Broncos of Western Michigan University before transferring to play for the Pittsburgh Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh. Anthony Siragusa Sr. (May 14, 1967 – June 22, 2022), nicknamed "the Goose", was an American professional football player who was a defensive tackle for 12 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). Burt Grossman
Burt L. Grossman (born April 10, 1967) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Before becoming a professional, Grossman played college football at the University of Pittsburgh where he was a three time All-ECAC selection. In 1989, he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers. Grossman played six seasons in the NFL: five for the San Diego Chargers (1989–1993) and one for the Philadelphia Eagles (1994). As an NFL player, Grossman's accomplishments include 45 quarterback sacks and three safeties. Lorenzo Z. Freeman (May 23, 1964 – October 10, 2016) was a professional American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) from Camden, New Jersey. He was the 89th draft pick in the fourth round and drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1987. He played five seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1987–1990) and the New York Giants (1991). Bob Buczkowski
John Robert Buczkowski (May 5, 1964 – May 23, 2018) was a professional American football, football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) who played for the Los Angeles Raiders in 1986 and 1987, as well as the Phoenix Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns. He was drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft. He played college football for the University of Pittsburgh. He attended Gateway High School (Pennsylvania), Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Christopher John Doleman (October 16, 1961 – January 28, 2020) was an American professional American football, football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL).
