2001 United States Olympic Curling Trials
The 2001 United States Olympic Curling Trials were held from December 9 to 16, 2001 in Ogden, Utah. Through double round-robin tournaments the trials determined which men's and women's teams would represent the United States at the 2002 Winter Olympics, also in Ogden. Tim Somerville's team won the men's side; his third time at the Olympics, first time for third Mike Schneeberger, and second time for Myles Brundidge and John Gordon. Kari Erickson and her team of Debbie McCormick, Stacey Liapis, and Ann Swisshelm won the women's side, their only loss coming after they had already clinched the Olympics berth. This was the first Olympics for Erickson and her sister Liapis and second for McCormick and Swisshelm. Erika Lynn Brown (born January 25, 1973) is an American curler, currently residing in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. She started curling in 1980 and throws right-handed. Career As a 15-year-old, Brown represent the United States at the 1988 Winter Olympics when curling was a demonstration event. Brown played third on the team, skipped by Lisa Schoeneberg, and the team finished fifth. Brown then had a successful junior career, representing the United States at six (1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994) World Junior Curling Championships, winning silver in 1992 and 1994 and a bronze in 1993. Matthew James Hamilton (born February 19, 1989) is an American curler from McFarland, Wisconsin. He is a World Junior Champion, World Men's bronze medalist, and Olympic gold medalist. Hamilton currently plays second for the Duluth, Minnesota-based John Shuster team. Curling career 2007–2014: Early career Hamilton played for skip Jeremy Roe at the 2007 and 2008 United States Men's National Championships, placing seventh and ninth, respectively. Kroy Everett Nernberger (born February 27, 1984) is an American curler from Madison, Wisconsin. He was a bronze medalist at the as alternate on John Shuster's Team USA. Curling career Nernberger competed in three Junior National Championships, with his best finish at fourth place in 2002 and 2004. He has medaled at the Men's National Championship three times, all in a row on skip Craig Brown's team, silver in 2014 and 2015 and bronze in 2016. Later in 2016 Nernberger was invited to be alternate on the US Champion team, skipped by John Shuster, as they represented the United States at the World Championship. The 2009 United States Olympic Curling Team Trials were held from February 21 to 28, 2009 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
