Jolovan Wham
Jolovan Wham is a Singaporean activist. He has previously served as executive director of the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics. The International Federation for Human Rights has stated that he has been the target of judicial harassment, while Amnesty International have stated that "Singapore authorities have repeatedly sought to make an example of his activism to deter Singaporeans who might dare criticize the government." Biography In March 2019, Singaporean authorities launched an investigation for illegal public assembly after Wham had posted a photo on social media of himself holding a sign calling for charges against the editors of The Online Citizen to be dropped. In March 2020, Wham was fined for contempt of court after having made a Facebook post the previous year criticising the lack of independence of Singapore's courts. Humanitarian Organization For Migration Economics
Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME) is a Singaporean non-governmental organization that provides services to, and advocates on behalf of, migrant workers. It was founded in 2004 by Bridget Tan. Founding The Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics was founded by Bridget Tan in September 2004. Tan had previously co-founded and led the Roman Catholic Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (ACMI), but left that organization due to a lack of support from the Church. Tan used $60,000 from her retirement funds to launch HOME. Abdul Kahar Othman
Abdul Kahar bin Othman (1953/1954 – 30 March 2022) was a Singaporean drug trafficker who was found guilty in 2013 of two charges of trafficking a total of 66.77 grams of heroin in Singapore, and later sentenced to death by the High Court in February 2015. After the end of his trial, Abdul Kahar tried to appeal the verdict but the courts dismissed his legal challenges and upheld his death sentence. It was not until seven years later when Abdul Kahar's execution date was finally scheduled on 30 March 2022. Despite the appeals by rights activists to the Government of Singapore to commute his sentence, Abdul Kahar was hanged as scheduled at Changi Prison, and he was 68 years old at the time of his execution. Changi Prison Complex, often known simply as Changi Prison, is a prison in Changi in the eastern part of Singapore. History First prison Before Changi Prison was constructed, the only penal facility in Singapore was at Pearl's Hill, beside the barracks of Sepoy Lines, and was known as the Singapore Prison. Hong Lim Park, formerly known as Hong Lim Green and Dunman's Green, is a heritage park in the Downtown Core district of Singapore located next to the Parkroyal Collection Pickering hotel and Clarke Quay station. Nagaenthran a/l K. Dharmalingam (13 September 1988 – 27 April 2022) was a Malaysian drug trafficker who was convicted of trafficking 42.72 grams of heroin in April 2009 upon entering Singapore from Malaysia at Woodlands Checkpoint with a bundle of heroin strapped to his thigh. Nagaenthran confessed to committing the crime, but gave statements claiming that he was ordered to commit the crime out of duress by a mastermind who assaulted him and threatened to kill his girlfriend. He also claimed he did so to get money to pay off his debts before he later denied any knowledge of the contents of his bundle. Nagaenthran was sentenced to death by hanging in November 2010.
