Joke Van Beusekom
Joke van Beusekom (born 23 June 1952 in Wassenaar, South Holland) is a retired female badminton player from the Netherlands. Career Nationally, she was the most successful Dutch female player, winning a record 25 Dutch titles and playing, between 1967 and 1983, 67 times for the Dutch team. Internationally she was most successful in women's doubles, usually partnered with Marjan Luesken (later "Ridder"), winning at the (first) European Youth Championships in 1969, the Denmark Open in 1972 and 1975, the Irish International in 1975 (where she also won the singles title), and the Dutch Open in 1977. Wassenaar (; population: in ) is a municipality and town located in the province of South Holland, on the western coast of the Netherlands. List Of Irish International Champions In Badminton
The Irish International or Irish Open in badminton is an international open held in Ireland since 1902 and is thereby one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world. It was however interrupted by the two World Wars. This tournament is currently a part of the European Badminton Circuit and takes place at the end of November every year as part of the home nations loop of international tournaments that include the Scottish Open and the Welsh Open in consecutive weeks. The tournament for most part and in recent years has been an International Challenge rated event. The recent exception was in 2012, 2017 & 2018 when the tournament was downgraded to International Series due to funding. The Denmark Open, or formerly known as Danish Open, is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Badminton Denmark. The Denmark Open was part of the BWF Super Series Premier from 2011 to 2017. BWF categorised it as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events per the BWF events structure since 2018. History The tournament started in 1936 and it is now the world's second oldest badminton tournament. It was interrupted by World War II and was on hiatus from 1956 through 1964. Marjan Ridder (born Marjan Luesken 3 May 1953, in Haarlem) is a retired badminton player of the Netherlands. Career Ridder won 17 Dutch titles. Internationally she was most successful in women's doubles, usually partnered with Joke van Beusekom, winning at the (first) European Youth Championships in 1969, the Denmark Open in 1972 and 1975, the Irish International in 1975, and the Dutch Open in 1977. She and Van Beusekom further earned bronze at the 1974, and 1978 European Championships, and silver at the (first) World Championships in 1977 in Malmö.
