Joint University Council Of The Applied Social Sciences
The Joint University Council of Applied Social Sciences (JUC) is the UK learned society for public and social administration. The JUC was founded at a meeting at London School of Economics in 1918. A complete history of the JUC was written by Professor Richard Chapman in 2007. As a representative body, the JUC is composed of institutional members from across Higher Education. It is constituted of three sub-committees: the JUC Executive Committee, the Public Administration Committee (PAC) and the Social Work Education Committee (SWEC). JUC Executive Committee The JUC Executive Committee is constituted of the trustees of the learned society. This includes representatives from both PAC and SWEC as well as the JUC Treasurer, JUC Secretary, JUC Chair and JUC Vice-Chair. ''Public Policy and Administration'' is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal that covers the field of public administration. The editors-in-chief are Alessandro Sancino (The Open University), and Edoardo Ongaro (The Open University). ''Teaching Public Administration'' is a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal that covers the field of education as relating to public administration. The editors-in-chief are John Diamond (Edge Hill University) and Catherine Farrell (University of Glamorgan). It was established in 1976 as ''Public Administration Teacher'' and was edited by Derek Gregory. In 1977 the journal changed its name to ''Teaching Public Administration.'' Under the editorship of Michael Hunt Sheffield Hallam University) the journal ceased operations in 2009. Sonia Jackson, (born 1934) is a British academic and Emeritus Professor at the Institute of Education, University College London. As of 2021, Jackson is semi-retired but still in active collaboration with colleagues at Thomas Coram Research Unit and internationally. Her main areas of research are: Education of children in care, foster care, social exclusion, Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), international comparisons of children's services. Early life and education Jackson is the elder daughter of Maurice Edelman and Matilda Edelman, née Yager. Jackson was evacuated to Buckinghamshire in 1940 and grew up in Chesham Bois.
